Let's get the ball rolling on this sucker. The only reason I haven't gone in the past is cause nobody else wants to go. Let's get a serious crew together, and do this somonabitch right!

For those not sure if they really want to go, consider this...

It's only 5 hours to get there up 15, which is a pretty nice drive.
The area around the track is actually really nice and worth seeing.
The average temp that time of year is ~70┬░.
They have garages if the weather is crappy.

...and perhaps most importantly...

The Glen is an amazing track to drive.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

I would go to instruct if it wasn't during the week 'cause I'll have 0 vacation days left after August.

It's actually one of the better places to take a female counterpart.

although this is still really far away since it is during the week i have to make sure that the project i will be on during that time isn't going through a critical time period (basically reserving the dates that far in advance still doesn't matter for the leave getting approved Sad )

i definitely want to go though!

i'll have a better idea if i can go in a few months

There are no races that weekend so it will probably be more like 27.

I think it's kinda overwhelming. The line itself is actually really easy with only 1 tricky turn but it's so unlike any other track that you feel lost your first 2-3 sessions.

not necessarily. you can pick up a lot of little tricks and landmarks just by doing research from those who have driven it and plenty have driven the glen. the first few sessions it was a bit hairy because you just need to get used to the way things are linked but car control is still car control, no matter what track you're on. while i havent looked into the glen yet, i imagine its something i could probably have a decent understanding of by the end of sat/beginning of sun. i may not be as fast or smooth as i am at familiar tracks, but you'll still be faster and smoother than your students.

Well. Here's my two cents since no one asked for it. When a student pays for an instructor, he shouldn't have to learn the track with an instructor. Granted all of Maeng's points are valid, it strikes me as a little unethical to have another person subsidize your learning curve. I don't see a problem paying for a track weekend on occasion.

i completely agree that if a student is paying to be taught, they should have someone that has a full understanding of what they're teaching. however, 1st session on saturday, you're not expecting the student to learn everything in that 25 minutes. you'll be lucky to get 5 laps in, let alone laps without traffic. in my particular situation, i had heard a lot of banter back and forth about "shenandoah is so hard and shenandoah isnt as hard as everyone says it is." its a very slow track, albeit technical, but not hard to pick up. i never felt like my student was off the pace of a normal learning curve because you really teach the basics at first to truly green students. but the concept of it i agree with andy.
