Meh this happened last time... some people got fed up and left after the first Great Hate, after about a week or two everything was back to normal and then after about a month and a half to two months those people started posting again. It's just the calm after the storm!
Posting in the banalist of threads since 2004

Reading this makes me laugh.
Do any of you really think this forum is any different from the rest? The reason any forum changes is the demographic, here it appears to be 'yoof', you want a more serious place to be then they are out there. IMO posting that you are leaving or telling people you dont post anymore because you donÔÇÖt like the site is fairly pointless unless you want things to change, which they probably haven't in the first place....more a case of people growing out of needing the web to say 'hello' to them each day.
That was constructive. Thanks, Luke. And good job at missing the picture, too.
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

I do feel like this forum is different than others. We do all change, and we aren't looking for more serious. Actually quite the opposite. I think we all at some point or another have taken ourselves far to serious on this message board. I miss when the "bitching" was lighthearted and not constant. Anyway, lets just try to keep this forum a little more lighthearted from here on out.
And for the record, I wouldn't say anything on this forum that I wouldn't say to your faces, cause I think that's part of the problem sometimes.

There used to be project threads, discussion, etc. Now we get to hear about DJ's DSM when it breaks. There used to be discussion about track events, autocrosses, stuff like that, now we *might* get a picture of goodspeed's funny tape smiley on his hood, and god forbid any actual pictures or stories from the track.
I think Rex nailed it. With the same 20 people posting all the time, there's only so much car stuff that people can talk about. When we cover all the topics we can cover, people ramble off into OT. We all have the same hobby but without an influx of new projects or people, there simply isn't going to be enough things to talk about.
When you get to that point you have two options. Either you go OT (like we always do) in an attempt to keep it interesting or everyone agrees to adopt a comfortable silence. I'm guessing a lot of people would opt for the latter but the problem with that is silence is generally infectious. If people don't see new posts they're less likely to visit and/or post, which eventually leads to a derelict forum. I've seen it happen before and generally speaking they don't recover.
I think for the most part, the crap around here is in good faith. I think people that don't know each other tend to misinterpret reactions and/or take things more seriously than they were intended. IMO, MM has become a lot like it is in the paddock. Yes, you talk about cars when necessary but for the most part you're making fun of someone, debating who's sister is a bigger whore or just generally paling around because everyone's friendly with one another. I don't know what's so bad about that.
Beej Wrote:You can't possibly live real life poking pinprick holes in all arguments like you do here.
That's the thing... I've never misrepresented myself here. Generally speaking, I'll be the first to bust balls in conversation and what people see as "poking pinprick holes" here is just that. It may come across as argumentative because we don't have intonation or context here, but I assure it's not meant that way.
It's no secret that Pete and I don't really get along. He doesn't like the person I am (here) and I think it's because things come across differently as ones and zeros.

The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Exactly. So I think we should focus on getting new members to come to the forum and help provide relevant and meaningful conversation. If someone has a project, they should post it and update it regularly. I love reading all the project and tech threads that come up. If we could get new people to joint the forum I think we would see a huge rise in things to talk about.
Personally I don't think the lounge is bad. A place to talk about random things is what it is supposed to be. Silliness is not bad from my point of view. The problem arises when people don't know when to stop pushing each other and dragging things out. There is no reason to take stuff personal in public. If we can moderate out that aspect of it and let the rest ride I think the lounge would be a better place. Anyone else seen Bambi lately?

But there is a difference between here and real life. In real life, you can just be avoided. On this forum, it actually requires a bit of effort to not hear what you have to say.

You may have never misrepresented yourself Chris, but I find you in real life to be a whole lot quieter and more reserved. Now we are not really friends, only mere aquaintences so that might be why.

That's the web. Everyone can suffer from it, no reason to dislike someone you get on with in the real world.
As for Mike's comments what do you want Mike a forum that fits just you or the 10,000 other individual mindsets, doesn't exist.
Sophmoric stuff this is.

It's different how? It requires effort to avoid someone in real life just as it does here. If someone annoys you, you skip over their posts. Problem solved.

Bingo!
I think you'll notice that I only really mess with people I know in "real" life. I'm reserved until I know how people are going to react. Like you, if I wouldn't say it in person, I wouldn't say it here. It's just that here, everyone can read what everyone else says to one another. If you hung out with say, RJ and I... you'd probably see that me here is me everywhere.

Indeed. Please stop with this kind of post, at least in this thread.
We've been very happy with the forum and the club in the past, and now we're making an effort to figure out what we've done wrong. The incessant holier-than-thou commentary is not only of 0-productive value, but it actually seems as if it's bent on being destructive. If you don't like this place, or you disapprove of how we interact, please, there's no exit sign but I'm sure you can find your way out. The majority of us are all "real life" friends through this club. This isn't some place that will appreciate you for coming in and sack swinging, or providing obnoxious egotistical commentary simply because... well, I'm not really sure why. But it's unnecessary.
