Is it necessary...

...to do a coolant change before tracking your car as recommended by NASA?

"In addition, we recommend the following:
A full tank of gas
A fresh oil change
Fresh, full coolant
Fresh high-temp brake fluid (like AP550 or ATE Super Blue or Ford HD)
Brake pads/shoes with at least 1/2 of original thickness remaining"

I wasn't sure if you guys usually do this before going on track. I've already put super blue fluid in for the brakes and clutch, brake pads will be ordered in the next couple weeks, and the Azenis arrived today! Now I just need to get them mounted and do an oil change just before Slummit.

i try to keep less than two track/autoX events on each oil change and I like to flush my coolant once/year. I just keep an eye on my pads, although my rotors seem to be the major wear item in my brakes.

Get a test strip from vatozone - will tell you how good your coolant is.

I am running 75% water/25% coolant + 1 bottle water wetter.

How many miles do you have on the coolant in there now? Do you ever have any cooling problems? If the answer is less than 50k and no then probably not. Most of preping a car for the track is common sense stuff. Always, always change the oil and check the brakes (pads and fluid). Full tank of gas is b/c you are going to need it anyway! Right G.! I haven't touched the coolant in my car since I got it...

Change oil, put in some better brake fluid, and get some brakes pads... That's it.

it wouldnt hurt to change the coolant, but if you arent having cooling problems, then i wouldnt be overly concerned about it...

do test the PH like RJ sugested, although I understand you can test with a multimeter too. I could look up how to do that if you can't find it somewhere. The coolant does lose its anti-corosion properties after a while, and surprise, water and iron make rust. It also produces a current while it's doing it, that's why it can be detected with a multimeter.

find the stopcock on the radiator and turn it. Put bucket underneath. Let it all drain out. Fill back up. I recognize there is more coolant still in the engine, so I repeated this process several times.

where do you dispose of the coolant?

There should be a drain on the block somewhere. For hondas its on the front of the block just left of the exhaust manifold. You'll need a breaker bar.

I remember finding the answer online at a government site... as long as there's not oil in it, you can just pour it down the drain. Confusedhock: Aparently, sewer treatment plants have no problem with it.

yeah, once the coolant is dilluted in the sewer it is no longer harmful to anything.
