The culmination of a lot of hard work and sacrifice:

Oh yeah - I'm of the opinion bare rooms look better than IKEA'd up rooms. I know thats what I'm going to do at my house - keep the rooms I cant afford to furnish empty until I can afford semi-decent stuff. I bought a living room suite at Marlo's for about 1300$. It's not too bad if you do one room at a time, and can stand looking at empty rooms for a while. Same with curtains/blinds.

That's probably how I'll roll too... one room at a time. I need a new bed badly... I'll probably bring down my matress from here though for one of the guest rooms until I get a bedframe for it. Good furniture ain't cheap man!

Predrywall pics from yesterday! I helped the production supervisor frame check the house while I was down there and pulled some extra speaker wire to finish off the 5.1 surround and added another CAT5 cable dedicated for XBOX Live. I was very impressed with how well the home looked in framing, their framers did a great job...although it's a pretty easy townhouse to build from what I saw.

I used to frame check SO many townhouses that it was just another part of my day. But it was really really fun to do it to my own home. I had the supervisor add some extra blocking in for me so that it will be easier to mount TVs on the wall in some places. I also rearranged one of my TV outlets since I decided against the projector.

Shouldn't be long now! Final walkthrough will be the first week of November and I'm still on for a December delivery. It's so tough being up here still, I've already checked out and am ready for the move!!!

Yeah, they've built them quickly. The PM said they average I think 62 building days. I was wondering as I was walking through how fast I could build them if I built down there... I used to build townhomes that were about 1100 square feet larger with another extra finished level at a best of 56 days.

It was really nice being able to frame check the house with him. It doesn't necessarily mean shit won't go wrong when I move in, but it gives me extra peace of mind having looked stuff over myself and allowed me to bond a little bit with the guy who built it so that hopefully he'll help me out in the future.

So I got about the worst possible news I could get yesterday regarding the purchase.

My own company denied my employee discount because of a small loophole in the HR policy that nobody knew about nor told me about. I guess they were not going to tell me so that I'd find out at settlement and be forced to settle.

It doesn't change the affordability of the house for me, but it basically means I'd be losing almost $20,000 in cash that was promised to me as as check at settlement, and I initially lost the ability to negotiate on the house because it was an employee sale (another corporate policy).

Most likely I'll be cancelling my contract and getting all of my money back.

I can't put into words how bummed out I am. That house was the perfect house in the perfect location for me. I'm extremely surprised and disappointed that my own company would treat me this way, although it doesn't surprise me based on how we've treated some of our customers in the past.

I don't know what the plan is now, I've spent the past 24 hours in a drunken haze. Most likely I'll be securing a job down there first, moving down to stay with friends, and put a contract on another house that I can negotiate on. I COULD go to settlement on this one, but it would be stupid to go forward when I can save literally tens of thousands of dollars on another house.

fuck them. don't go to settlement. I can tell you being jerked around blows ass. If you can get them to take it off the backend, you'll be better off anyway, as it's less you'll be paying in interest per month. That'd be the only compromise, if it were me.

How long are those sitting on market around there? If they're sitting around too long, they'll probably want to negotiate with you now, employee or not.

Thanks guys. In a way I wish it had happened because of something that I fucked up on, that way at least I could be pissed at myself. But, now I'm just really bitter about the whole situation and I've lost a lot of respect for the people who sign my paychecks.

I am a believer in everything happens for a reason, so I know I'll end up in a better situation...this is just a gigantic speed bump in the road toward accomplishing my goals. That's life right?

So I splurged today and impulse bought a 65" 1080p DLP HDTV, since I don't really need to crunchtime the finances for a house.

It was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up. I feel better already
