I'm out of Traction Pop Tarts, though, and that makes me really disappointed.

I got offered to drive a Z06 on track (among some other nice hardware) and I turned it down :hammer:

I'm out of Traction Pop Tarts, though, and that makes me really disappointed. You've maxed out your Traction Credit, and its going to hurt your Traction FICO score.

the gtr is 2 tenths quicker to 60mph and has an identical quarter mile time despite weighing a few hundred pounds more and having less power. where does that extra grunt off the line come from?
as for the ease of driving with the z06, i HAVE driven one. and the traction control keeps you from putting down more torque than the tires can handle... crippling the car in first gear (going at partial throttle to avoid wheelspin). which brings me back to the quicker 0-60 being due to the gtr being able to put power to a bigger overall contact area due to the awd system. to say that the system has no benefit of dry pavement goes against the data. silly me, i forgot that we were talking about drag racing.
oh wait, we arent. :?:
but maybe you can share with me a road course that you stop. then accellerate to 60mph for a lap.
the 0-60 magazine jerkoff numbers really dont mean anything applied to a track.
Quote:my assertion was that the gtr would have the advantage on a tight course... and the numbers back me up. on an open course, the lighter weight, better coefficient off drag and higher power numbers give the z06 the edge.
a lighter car by several hundred pounds and a lower Cg are much much faster on a tight course than an overweight topheavy pig with awd. Even as tight as an autocross.
We arent making this stuff up or reading magazines, this is what many of us have been doing for a long time.

do we know if it's a sequential twin setup or parallel? a lot of twin setups have almost no lag and the first turbo spools almost instantly.
the "tight" course i'm referencing would be one with a lot of really sharp hairpins and other low-speed turns followed by straights.

If you're talking about a course that tight, I can't think of very many tracks that would meet that description. The problem with low speed turns (i.e. less than 60 ish mph) followed by straights is that any significantly long straight away is going to give the advantage to the Vette. I was thinking maybe some of the roval courses have some tight low speed turns followed by straights but those would probably favor the Vette.
At any rate if the GTR can keep up with its benchmark, the 911 Turbo, they will have done a great job. The 911 Turbo is a worthy benchmark and if they can hit that benchmark for about $30k less that's a pretty good accomplishment.

Uh hi, Ranger drove a stock engine-wise C6 Z06 to 10.9s with just drag radials. I believe he drove it to a 11.1 or 11.2 on stock rubber.
I don't see a GTR getting anywhere close to that. There's no driver ability with that car if you're comparing 1/4 mile times because it's an automatic... you're just going to rev it up and launch the piss out of it. A car like the GTR is going to hole shot in most cases because it has AWD, but with a good driver the Z06 will walk that car every single time, and likely will be even off the line with the GTR.
Remember, the GTR is over 400 POUNDS heavier than the Z06, is less aerodynamic, and makes less power and torque. That does not equate to faster ETs nor higher trap speeds.

it really sounds like you think that the z06 is a tailhappy pig that cant put down any power except in a straight line.
it isnt.
at vir, oaktree onto the back straight (scenario like you describe)
the zo6 can carry good speed through and can get on the power hard even before apex even with the stock tires. I was pretty damn surprised. But here I am talking about experience instead of magazine articles again.
an awd car doesnt have the advantages you think it does on a tight course because the laws of physics regarding weight transfer and momentum apply to it too (although maybe not as much since its JDM?)

you should come out and do a HPDE or track day sometime, I think you would learn a lot about this stuff and have a blast.

No one's calling him a 17 y/o freshman, Adam. I don't think anybody here has insinuated that his age has anything to do with his comments.
*edit* and Evan's comment about him doing an event was actually pretty constructive (it even sounded that way). *edit2* It also hardly seems fair to call out somebody like Evan for not showing up at an event.
