ok, basically i've been away from drawing cars for a while. between work sapping up all my drive to do art and other random crap just taking up time, i kinda lost my feel for things - got rusty. anyway, i'm trying to get back into it because i love doing it, and maybe in a year get into some contests or something where i can somehow compete. i'm just starting back into things with ink but i'm going to move into colored illustrations soon.

i'm looking for opinions/comments from you guys since (A) you tend to call things as you see them, which i need and (B) you're all car enthusiasts, which is good. your imput will help me improve, so i'd really appreciate any. "its the greatest thing ever, have my babies" to "i wouldn't wipe myself with that so called art", i don't care, i wanna hear it.

i'm working on some concepts. first thing i wanted to do was something of a modern successor to the Mk.1 escort / datsun 510 / mazda RX-3. simple coupe, low beltline, chiseled and cut with modern styling here or there. something that would have RWD and a high strung 4 banger:

i'm working on engine bay shots and some other angles. what do you think of the styling? double-bubble roof too much? not enough shading? weak idea? if this turns out to be a worthwhile thread i'll update it with new drawings from time to time. thanks!

Looks good - it's pretty cool that you've got that ability. I couldn't draw my way out of color by numbers.

I wasn't able to come up with any criticisms by myself, but since you asked, it looks like the double bubble roof was kind of a 'mistake'. I get it since we've all seem the before, but it doesnt' really look natural here. Really, I like it.. but you're not going to have my babies.
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

I think it looks like a gorilla sat on the front end of the car, then got up and left the frame. Something's a little off on the perspective - the front grill housing the headlights needs to be picked up on the closest corner to flatten the hood out and make those lines flow a little better.

Looks like a 1200, only notchback:

Or a classic celica notchie:

In other words, I rike it, but you're not pounding any new ground out here. I do not like the double-bubble. Also, if you're going for that look anyway, go ahead and put on JDM fender rear views. Smile

I don't like the double bubble either. The shading on the wheels and front end is really good. Apply that to the rest of the car. The roofline looks a little high. I think it would look "faster" if you was chopped down a bit. Good work. Show more.

death to the double bubble, and i think maybe a stretch and a chop too.

Rex - i know, nothing new or crazy. i'm trying to get my feel for things back....crawl before walk kinda thing.

Ok then, yes. It looks good. But stretch and chop is a good idea.

agreed, lower roof line and maybe a more aggressive angle on the windshield, and add a front mount for shits and giggles

Needs 100% more wing, and side mirrors that are integrated a little more. The front looks phat, but I'd play around with the headlights, maybe make them small circles in a larger circular housing (more modern). Kind of hard for me to describe, but much like the Morette headlights that you can get for the bugeye WRXs. Right now it kind of looks like a kid with his hat too low over his eyes. Love the deep dish wheels.

Cool pic Scotty!

Let me start by saying you are a baller scotty. Your art blows me away. I love that picture just as it is, none of this is criticism, it is ideas.

I think you should keep the viper roof, the double bubble is neat, though it doesn't follow the old car vibe, its still cool, take it or leave it in the end. I think you outta put the mirrors way up on the fenders like an old Z car. It needs fog lights and I think you should eliminate the rear pillar on the door so its glass all the way down the side. A round outset gas lid would be hot shit (Charger, Challenger R/T,T/A style). Some sort of hoodscoop (duct, like an old Z, or The MMinivan™) and a classic pillar e-body mopar style spoiler. Less on the tail lamps, maybe something like a BMW 2002 instead of the wrap arounds.
