you're forgetting that I came THIS ..||... close to buying one a few years ago from a dumb rich arlington girl for silly cheap. I love the car.

the #1 through #10 reasons I didnt buy one was chronic rear main seal failures. Really really bad failures, not overhyped internet rumors. In fact the car I was going to buy only had 20k miles on it and was already on its second engine.

I will own a 996 someday, but it will be a Carrera S or GT3.

when I looked into in 2004, it had not been recognized by porsche. cars in warranty just kept getting remanned engines with the same problem, and at least 1 guy had a brand new 2004 911 with 1k miles on the clock and a puddle of oil on his garage floor.
I have no idea about developments since then.

I have read that you can update the RMS to the latest version, which supposedly fixes the problem. Now, who knows if it actually does and everyone knows I'm uberskurred of major problems on a car so the issue is certainly a concern of mine.

- water cooled 911s are for gold digging housewives
- you won't drive it in the winter, why bother with AWD. it's not like you'll be launching the car at every light anyway.
- have fun with the service costs since you don't touch wrenches


sorry. that's all i got, and it's pretty weak. what's stopping you? they are the german NSX, except with character. 4 doors are over rated, too.

i was always under the impression that 911's leaked oil all the time, from any/all orifices. maybe not alot, but it's just something they do. just pretend it's sweat from all the horsepower.

Agreed! And:
- Engine on wrong end
- Too expensive to track, too expensive to just tool around in
- Then you'll have to have conversations with other Porsche owners about their precious babies and all the little nit-picky differences and little tiny upgrades they've paid someone else to do for 10x what they should cost and why the 993 is slightly better than the 997 1/3 or the XXX super tool edition or why theirs is better than the BLAH BLAH BLAH SHUT THE HELL UP. I've overheard and even been stuck listening to these "enthusiasts" and it is PAINFUL. Either you'll become one of them (a dick), or have to avoid them.

I liked the idea of an older Porsche, at least it'd have some style. Or what about a Boxster? Those at least seem like a better value, they look better (IMHO), are said by many to be a perfect sports car, and at least the engine is in the right place! And most Porsche owners are so conceited and blind that they don't even consider it good enough (expensive enough) to be a real Porsche, so then you don't have to be sucked into their sad little club.
