New Game: Buying a 996 is a bad idea because...
#1
For about a year, RJ has been trying to convince me to buy one. He knows I'm itching to upgrade and he knows owning one is ultimately on my list of things to do so he's been taking all opportunties to tell me what a great idea it is. His decisions have been less than stellar in the automobile department so surely it's a bad idea, right?

So let's be mature about it and weigh the arguments for and against.

For
-Fucking awesome car
-I can afford it and might not get the chance again
-It's about time I do something completely irresponsible in my life
-Not much more expensive than what I've been considering (B6/7 S4)
-Fucking awesome car

Against
-Definitely a car payment
-Can only afford a C2 (me = AWD whore)
-People will know I have a small dick
-Definitely can't travel with it
-RJ thinks it's a good idea

So as you can see... my list of arguments against is way too short and I need your help. Thoughts?

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

I think you'd be dumb not to do it. How often do you use 4 seats? In those cases, would the 3 suffice?

Why can't you travel with it? From what I know, 911s are one of the most practical and reliable sports cars ever made. I wouldn't hesitate to take one on a weekend trip if it were just me and one other person.

I actually love having a 4 door if I want to toss some bags and whatnot in the back. Day to day the only thing my back seat has gotten me is the right the drive to lunch at work. To be quite honest, the ONLY time I have more than me in the car is if the wife and I headed somewhere or I drive to lunch at work.

Have you seen my wife pack? J/k... I honestly don't know. I guess I'm just used to throwing 2-3 bags in my trunk but what's to stop me from putting 2 in the back seat and 1 in the trunk? Truth be told, if I'm going anywhere longer than VIR I always rent a car anyway. :?

You guys are supposed to be talking me out of it.

I agree with that but I have this stupid thing where every car I buy has to be newer than the last.

Wrenches are like chicks were in the 4th grade.
I liked to look but was afraid they had cooties.

ummm... never? She's just as not ready as I am and vacationing with my sister and her 1 y/o the last 2 weeks reaffirmed that. I'd say we're at least 3 years out, if ever.

Go for the 2-door - honestly, you really won't miss the rear doors much. And if you need to haul stuff around, use her wagon.

Older... younger are step-sisters.

Okay so we have John, Mike and RJ... it's definitely not a good idea.

Enjoy your youth - you already have equity built into your 2nd house - you're doing well for yourself. Reward yourself, especially when you don't have any offspring responsibilities on the horizon... Smile

If you buy the 996 now, you can buy a Ducati when you get your bonus at the end of the year Wink

That's the hitch, I'd likely want to wait until I got my bonus in Feb to buy one.

That also brings up another point. With two bikes, the 996 would have to stay outside if I every got lazy about putting the bikes up. I'm managed to fit the cruiser on the side and the SV in the storage room, but it would be a bitch to switch it around all the time. Not that I ride anyway...
