I was hoping the Elite would have some internal improvements (other than a bigger hard drive) but I suppose its still a decent deal. I'll figure out what I wanna do when we get closer to Forza 2's release date.

Yeah the Elite looks cool, the only thing I'd want it for is the HDMI input... but I have no complaints about image quality with that system so it doesn't appeal to me that much. The bigger hard drive is also nice, but I haven't even come close to filling mine up. The only reason I'd want a bigger hard drive is if I modded my XBOX and pirated games. Which I don't do so, I'm okay with the 360 I have =)

So my 360 broke again tonight. Frozen screen and the whole 9... none of the red blinking lights of doom, but frozen screen when playing any game. I call up XBOX support and the lady tells me that my XBOX is out of warranty.. it expired at the end of March. I don't even bother to argue, I just ask right away for her manager. He gets on and I explain to him that:
1) I think it's lame that my XBOX was shipped back to me in January after it broke the first time, and now three months later it's broken again
2) Now I'm being told that my warranty period is up, and the new 360 that was sent to me is only covered until the end of the warranty on the old original broken one.

The first chick tried to tell me that it would cost me $140 to have Microsoft fix it, and this manager told me he could give me a 50% discount on that. The refurbished 360 that would be sent to me would have a new one year warranty. So now, essentially I'm spending $70 on a new one year warranty and an XBOX that will probably break down again.

Does anyone else think that's fucked up? Basically the refurbished unit you get back is only warranted until the end of your original warranty or for 90 days, whichever is longer. I asked the guy if I should write a complaint letter to Microsoft and if that might help them change the policy, he told me nobody will read it. I laughed and told him that my uncle was one of the head lawyers for Microsoft and that if I wanted someone to read my letter, I'd have him hand deliver it to Bill Gates :lol: He probably didn't believe me or care, but it's no bluff... you can literally see where Gates' house is from my uncle's =P All those rich bastards live together in Mercer Island.

ive sent my 360 back once, no probelsm since then. My roommates 360 , which he bought like 6 months after they first came out has had no problems at all. Works like a dream, and is much faster at loading games then my 360 was out of the box, so something was definitely up when i purchased it. Just take your shit to walmart tell them you dont have a receipt and you got it for your birthday last week and you wanna exchange it because the shit freezes up. Worked for a few of my friends might as well try it.

Does Walmart accept stuff back without a receipt? I was thinking about doing that at Best Buy, but just returning it with the piece of shit 360 in the new box.

well my friends never had receipts, and as long as you ask for an exchange and not your money back...it should work, but you may have a better chance of just buying a new one and then returning it with the shitty one.

it makes perfect sense to me that after any repairs or replacements, your warranty would start over.

Yep they sure do. I bought a $60 pocket knife there and bent the tip on it about 4 days later doing something you should never do with a knife, try to pry something. Definantely the most expensive and least effective prying tool you can buy. But anyways I just told them I bought it as a gift for my brother and when he opened it the tip was bent. Took it to customer service and they gave me a gift card. Went back to the sporting goods and talked guns/knives with the guy behind the counter for about twenty minutes and he ended up scanning his employee discount card for me. Got my $60 knife for $52 and used the rest on beer.

But back to Mikes topic, that is definantely lame of Microsoft. It does make sense that your warranty should start over again after you have to send it back.

Thanks, I mean I knew I wasn't crazy for thinking that. It would almost be similar if a car dealership did warranty work on your car at the end of your warranty period and then didn't accept it back under warranty when the same problem happened again 3 months later.

picked up test drive unlimited last night... very arcadey, but also very fun. basically you're in hawaii. the entire island is open to you... there are races all over the place, dealerships all over the place, real players all over the place, you sell your cars online instead of to the computer (it is an option to just get rid of it asap, but you only get ~half price)... very immersive. oh yeah, it has bikes too

Update: I did get a new XBOX 360. It wasn't under the most legitimate of means, but I wasn't really left with any other choice heh. Costco was actually going to take it back, a year later with no receipt! The only reason they didn't was because I didn't have some of the stuff with me that it originally came with. So in conclusion, Costco FTW when it comes to returning stuff!
