Alright so I managed to finish every one of my gen ed classes when I finish this semester and I only have 2 more buisiness classes to finish before my COB300, which I will be taking Spring of 2008.
I need electives, ive only taken one and it looks like I need to take at least 3 more? It says I need another 9 credits outside of the business of college, but im done with my gen eds....does this add up?
Anyway, anyone recommend any classes, id love to do welding, photography, anything like that, or anything that is fun, or hell, anything that has anything do to with my business management major. Any of the alumni speak up which classes actually helped in the real world, or wish they had taken?
anything with welding, photo or stuff like that is reserved for art majors. without being in the art program you have to get overrides. Can be a pain in the ass but usually will work

take fun stuff. Are you getting a B.A. or B.S.?
I never got to take a single "fun" elective the whole time i was in college. Double majoring, and being forced to take electives picked out of a pre-determined list really limited my choices...I wish I had taken some fun stuff in college. Shit, even an english class of some sort would have been a nice break.

I didn't go to JMU and this probably isn't going to be a popular choice but the most helpful elective I took in college was Federal Taxes. It would be a bitch if you're not that great in math but it's real world, life impacting information you're learning.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
I'm doing my taxes right now and it makes me wish I had known about a class like that.
Anyone want to do my taxes for me, this year is a huge PTIA.

answering yes and no to some questions on turbo tax is over your head? believe me, nothing you are doing now is complicated when it comes to taxes.
I highly recommend taking Interior Design Studio I ... look for an opening with William Tate. By far the most influential teacher I had at that school. You do a lot of really abstract, cool projects... I ended up making a minor out of it after starting with that class as an elective I had to fill! AND I met Scott there, and consequently found out about MM! So if it hadn't been for that class, I'd have never met any of you guys =)
Tate can also hook you up with some industrial design courses where you actually get to build cool shit. I took an upper level design class where I actually constructed an entire project in the stairwell of the art studio building that consisted partly of a concrete cantilever ramp that I built =P

Yea I should probably just use turbo tax, it's just confusing with the school paying me paying me to pay my tuition. There's all this crap I have to fill out in order to not count that as income because I'm a full time grad student, but portions of that are income because it's a stipend. Really I just don't know what I'm doing. I'll figure it out when I have time this weekend.
Classes wise, take golf and tennis this summer. Just do it

this is kind of off-topic, but if it's still available, there was a seminar that JMU offers through the bussiness school -- i forget what it's called -- but it's basically a lecture that helps you get ready for the real world after graduation.
its over the course of a month in the spring i think, they have professionals come in from law offices, banks, real estate, family planning, etc. and teach you what to do and where to go when you're faced with living on your own. best thing i ever took at JMU besides my art classes and it wasn't even a class

well i suggest the course on writing resumes, my g/f took it and said it was helpful. Also if your a management major, then i suggest picking up a minor in HRD (Human Resource Development). Only 6 classes and you have that minor. Its really really easy, i took three classes and got As in all of them. Ive decided to help reinforce my management major im gonna finish off the minor.

Ok, so I didn't got to JMU, I went to Raddy, but I will agree with Justin on the Human Resources classes. I took 1 class. I loved it, and I should have made it my minor, it would have come in handy 2 months ago when I was searching for a job. Also, I took a Business and Professional presentations class for my PR degree. It was required by all communication majors, but was open to others I believe. It had it all. Resume writing, interview techniques, and professional presentations. Also, go out and buy the book what color is your parachute? it was one of our text books, and for anyone getting ready to start job hunting, its a really handy book to have.

I like that suggestion Justin, I may look into that.
my enrollment appointment has ended so I have to wait till later, but I think im gonna do that. All I needed were my 2 business classes and so I have those. Definitely having credits from high school is a huge plus.

nothing's going to really help. if you're trying to find something on, let's say RJ's sister for instance, you'll find that she's discussed in many a thread from 'Project Miata' in the Technical Section to 'RJ's sister' in the General section to 'Hyperfest '06' in the Event section. Unless you searching for individual posts (which i personally hate doing).
i could care less about getting a better search engine, i'm just saying it sucks, haha. this site since it's too personal and not really moderated (getting better with the shanangans though!). if you dont remember the thread name, make another - goes against almost every standard on the big message boards.
Hey Feersty, be a smartass and search "classes" or "classes to take" or "confused on what classes to take". Contains like every thread in this forum, we are always talking about someone to do with school classes, car race classes, hell even talk about how "classy" we are lol.
