So I've begun looking at summer tires for the new wheels I bought for my IS. The wheels are 18x8 in the front and 18x8.5 in the rear, so I'm guessing the tires I'm looking for are (2) 225/40-18 and (2) 255/40-18.
What I'm looking for is a tire that is reasonably priced (I know some of you guys can probably still get good deals on tires, and I know a couple of people in the Subaru community that can hook me up with dealios... I'm looking to spend like $500-$600 max). I'd like the tire to handle well on dry pavement but have great wet traction. Snow and ice traction doesn't matter as these wheels will never see the wintertime.
I was looking at some of the Kumho tires as I currently have Ecstas on this set of wheels which I like even though they're bald. Even the Ecstas from Tirerack are like $550 which is a decent price for a dealer markup. The Ecsta ASX seemed to get pretty good reviews and they were reasonably cheap.
My brother has PZero Neros on his Lancer which I like also, but they're a little pricey. Any suggestions for a good high performance, all-season tire? Maybe something I haven't heard of before?
Longevity would be really nice too as I do a lot of driving.

A lot of people give me funny looks, but I really like my Fuzion ZRis and Kumho MXs. The MXs have gone up considerably in price in the past couple of years, so I'm not sure of their price so much now, but I abuse the shit out of the Fuzions on track and they a damn fine job, plus they've lasted a pretty good amount of time too. I kinda look at it this way: If I can buy a set at $100/tire and eat them up on the track, drive every day, etc. and they last 3/4 as long as a "better" tire that cost $150, I win.

well, lee doesnt track the rexus, so the abuse those tires take will not come close to what they see on track. however, lee you are looking for something everyone wants. good traction in the wet and dry with long life for as cheap as possible. you can probably only get two of those at a time. the fuzions arent a bad choice. i'm not sure how much kumho mx's are nowadays but i hear those are good as well. while i dont think the hankook zrwhatevers i have on the sti are great on track, they're decent and i got them pretty cheap too. for the street they're a good tire though.

If you can get Hankook RS2's in your sizes, that would be the tire to get. They're second fastest to the Falken 615's but have some serious water channels. Check out www.edgeracing.com

I've heard good things about this tire and supposively have great wet traction characteristics. I know these tires were going for a decent price in 17", not too sure about 18".
RT615s are a great tire but supposively wet traction is a bit of an issue with the tight channels, also they are a little more expensive. Similar to the RE070 traction with a slightly less stiff tire wall.
The RS2 from edgeracing in 225 is $128 / tire and I guess doesn't even exist in 255 width. The Fuzion ZRis are only $93 bucks a piece (nice!) but also don't exist in 255. They do come in 245 width for $121 each though, would those work on my wheels?

245s should do fine on 8.5s
dunno if anyone else said this but you could do 235s on the front....

I think I found my tire. EdgeRacing has Falken 512s for $80/tire for 225/40 and $99/tire for 245/40! The guys on the Subaru forum are raving about them for a good grip in dry and wet, long lasting tire. Some guys were seeing 36k+ miles out of them, which is solid for a tire that costs so little.

i had those, i liked em, but i had a poor alignment and they wore horrible due to that so i didnt get as much of a life out of them as i would have liked.
Good feedback, I'll definitely be getting an alignment right away after the wheels are installed, especially since I'm making a small jump up in wheel size. Hopefully these will last me a while ^_^
It will help that they will only be run through the spring/summer/early fall months. If I can get two spring/summer seasons out of them (which is doubtful with the amount of driving I do) I would be very happy and impressed.

when i had em on the RS-T i could break em loose but they grabbed back traction pretty fast. Well atleast the one tire that was spinning did
I'm on my 3rd set of 512s. (2 different civics, and the 240sx) I like em. They're great all season daily drivers even for the occasional aggressive daily drive.
Woo hoo, just ordered 235/40 18s and 245/40 18s from edgeracing.com. Now to get these wheels painted and I'll be set for the summer time ^_^
