1990 1JZ-GTE targa top supra
Formerly NA (7M-GE), so insurance is wicked cheap
I have invested over $12k into the car, was originally looking to get $9k, but have considered the amount of work that still needs to be done, my desire to get it away from me, and the fact that modifying a car does not make it appreciate much (even if it is 1 in ~100 in the U.S.).
All parts removed from the car will come with the car, except for the old engine. I will post pictures after I have given the car's condition.
Chassis has 135,000 miles on it, engine has 60,000 miles on it (came from a 1991 Supra turbo R), all modifications to car have less than 1500 miles on them, everything seems pretty sound unless noted.
CONDITION
-Tachometer guage is nonfunctional. (Will try to remedy soon, just needs a jump from the engine harness to the appropriate port on the dash harness.
-Temperature guage does not work.
-Oil pressure guage does not work (for this to work, custom modifications are necessary to the engine).
-Speedometer, fuel, and voltmeter are all accurate. Several bulbs had burned out behind the dash upon purchasing the car, all have been replaced since the project was started. It was intended for all guages to be replaced with aftermarket guages as the project progressed, but this was never accomlished. All interior lights function properly, as well as all exterior lights and turn signals. Front turn signals have been replaced with clear signals, but stock signals will come with car. Reverse lights do not come on when transmission is put in reverse so a switch has been rigged to the driver side of the shift boot for easy access. Clock does not work, but has in recent past. Not sure why it suddenly stopped.
-Both front seats have no tears on them and both have original seat belt guides (rare for car with this many miles). Driver's power seat works but needs a couple new plastic adjustment peices. Back seats are in great shape.
-Power windows and locks work perfectly.
-A hole has been cut into the glove box to house the new 1JZ ECU, which is considerably larger than the 7M and does not mount in the 7M location. Glove box is still function, but does not hold as much stuff now.
-Comes with a stock shifter as well as a "short" shifter (modified stock shifter).
-Comes with JVC head unit with CD player.
-There is a large stain in the trunk that was there when I purchased the car that I have no idea why it is there. Presumably, one of the previous owners relocated the battery to the back of the car, but I have found no evidence of this other than the stain.
-There is a fairly fresh paint job on the car (<2 years ago), although it was not a top quality job. Car does look very nice and clean.
-Targa top leaks occaisionally. Common amongst cars these age and easily fixed by a new seal.
-From the turbos, a Greddy 3" downpipe leads to a stock cat. From there, a 2.5" pipe leads back to a set of 3" mandrel bends, which is then welded to a magnaflow muffler (3" inlet with dual 2.5" outlets) to maintain a fairly stock appearance but allow less restrictive exhaust flow. Ideally, I would buy a 3" test pipe to remove the cat and finish off the 3" piping to the bends at the back of the car.
-Car has only seen the following fluids since I purchased it:
Mobil 1 10w30 synthetic oil
Redline MT-90 transmission fluid
Redline power steering fluid
ATE Superblue brake fluid (DOT 4+)
Coolant mix with water wetter
-The following are the upgrades to the car:
Suspension Techniques front and rear sway bars
Bilstein shocks (adjustable height)
H&R springs
Spearco intercooler 32.5x8x3 (core 26x8x3)
2.5" intercooler hardpipes
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Stainless steel brake lines (front driver's side has not been installed)
mkIV supra (93-98 ) TRD tower bar (modified to fit)
Apexi turbo timer (still needs to be hooked up to the car, comes with harness)
-Comes with owner's manual as well as 1990 Toyota Supra Repair Manual
-AC components have been removed due to custom fabrication necessary to make this work. Compressor is still attached to the engine, new serpentine belt will be necessary if this is removed.
-Cruise control no longer works. Custom fabrication necessary to make it work, but not too hard.
-A switch has been wired into the cockpit from the engine bay. I originally intended to place 2 fans removed from the original 7M engine bay behind the intercooler to pull more air through the intercooler to cool the pressurized air more effeciently. All that will be necessary is to mount the fans and lengthen the wires so that the plugs will reach.
-When you press down on the accelerator hard, there is a stutter/stumble due to not getting enough fuel. Car needs an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and this should be remedied. At this time, I just gradually press down on the throttle and it will build boost nicely and will not stutter at all.
