thats the only good thing about the Canadian health care system... cheap drugs :-P the 3 month wait for a doctors appointment blows!
everyone is going to the doctor for every little thing... a guy is short of breath from time to time so he calls to make an apointment... 3 months LATER he finds out he has lung cancer... that 3 month wait just lowered his survial rate dramatically.
thats the kind of thing that makes me totally against healthcare for all... our closest example (Canada) is struggling with that!

Our numbers are that high when we're electing a pres, usually between 70-80% according to some #'s I found here:

in off years, we're usually between 30-60%. And most recently that's been in the lower range, that's why I thought 50ish was pretty good. Sure, it'd be nice to be higher, but if those people are staying home because they don't care and/or are uneducated about the candidates, well we should be thankful they stayed home. If you were doing a scientific poll, and captured 30-60% of your sample population, that would be considered QUITE good! Excessive even!

Kaan,
The economy is in the shitter but it is heading up and out of it.
From The Washington Post story regarding Chinese:
Quote:SHANGHAI, Jan. 9 -- China has resolved to shift some of its foreign exchange reserves -- now in excess of $800 billion -- away from the U.S. dollar and into other world currencies in a move likely to push down the value of the greenback, a high-level state economist who advises the nation's economic policymakers said in an interview Monday.
As China's manufacturing industries flood the world with cheap goods, the Chinese central bank has invested roughly three-fourths of its growing foreign currency reserves in U.S. Treasury bills and other dollar-denominated assets. The new policy reflects China's fears that too much of its savings is tied up in the dollar, a currency widely expected to drop in value as the U.S. trade and fiscal deficits climb.
China now boasts the world's second-largest cache of foreign exchange -- behind only Japan -- and is on pace to see its reserves climb past $1 trillion later this year. Even a slight diminishing of the dollar as a percentage of those holdings could exert significant pressure on the U.S. currency, many economists assert.
If you want to worry about fiscal policy and security threat. Read up on the Chinese.

Inflation is low even despite rising gas prices (so interest rate hikes are slowing down)
And most importantly, unlike the bubble years, this economy is sustainable.

Give me a hard value that makes them distinct. I've only seen subjective critiques of social spending. Also, am I mistaken or is current social spending for the underclass less than a percent of the federal budget. I could be wrong.
Two feet.
I mean, I'm not saying the economy is in the shitter right now, but there were definately some rough years.

So I oversimplified for effect.... shoot me.
All I'm saying is decreasing government payroll and spending on the lower classes won't suddenly leave millions jobless. It may leave them out of the job they had but the the illegals don't seem to have any problem finding them.

That started at the end of the clinton administration....
I'm not of the opinion that who's in office or what party controls the senate has a huge impact on the state of the economy. But if the economy is in a decline, everyone blames the president.

The deficit is also at a all time high. The overall debt is at an all time high. Unemployment was redefined in Pres Bush's first term which can be partially attributed to the lower number. The majority number of new jobs created are low paying/low skill jobs (Are illegal immigrant type jobs counted in this? I don't know)
The Dow is also considered to be quickly becoming an archaic measure of the economic health of the country.

Alright. Let's go back to talking about cars...I drove my coworkers IS350 again. It still sucks.
Two feet.
Cars suck.
Then again, riding your motorcycle home last night in 50 degree rain, with a tinted visor (so you cant keep it down to keep the rain out and still see anything) sucks even worse.
