I’m fortunate that the garage is climate controlled. And as much as I like having the car back, I didn’t miss it a whole lot, not like it was killing me to not drive it. I just don’t have tons of free time and what little I have I don’t feel like crawling under a car a million times to work in a tiny cramped space.
I agree that a lift will change things big time. Small chance I do a MaxJax in this house but will more likely hedge my bets on these 13 and 17 year old M cars not needing much and will wait until the next one in a year or three.

I cant even get my 7 year old non-M BMW to not need much. The dashboard christmas tree came on yesterday.

Better hurry up with that swap.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
Gonna fix up a few minor things, mostly aesthetic, but after that...she’s up for sale.
It’s been a great 4 years, just looking to thin the herd and simplify things a bit.

Still working on that. Polen's on the right track, BaT is a strong possibility.

Whoops. E39. But you have one? It can't be a coincidence and I can't imagine we have more than 2 in the club?

David bought his (Le Mans Blue) in oh, 2013 or so. Back when we lived across the street from each other in Fairfax. DJ's friend Jason had a black one, I believe, which has been gone for a while. And then BJ has the white one... for now.

Been taking my sweet sweet time getting this thing BaT-worthy. Done so far: tires, new rear bumper, accessory belt, battery. //TODO: front lower control arms, PDR two places, maybe wheel refinishing. I didn't notice until months after the tires were done that there was minor damage to a couple of the wheels from the mounting - I thought it was just the leftover tire mounting goop. Might swing by DeltaV to complain but don't expect much. I've always wanted to see how they would look in the factory Chrome Shadow color, but the closest place that can do that is 5 hours south in NC and it'd be $185/wheel. Would I get that back in BaT bucks? I'm on the fence.
On top of the wheel thing, the body shop experience for the bumper was more of a todo than it needed to be. At pickup, the bumper wasn't pushed in all the way (a simple shove fixed it) and the trunk wouldn't close. "We didn't even open the trunk" was a blatant lie (I swung by and have a picture of the whole thing removed), and they shoved some universal clips on the trim the latch was hitting and lied again "been doing that awhile, latch is all scraped up." When I got home, I had to adjust the bumper vertically to make it fit right, threw some OE clips on the trim, and fixed the trunk gasket they didn't remount correctly. AND this was the shop DeltaV recommended. I feel like I'm satisified with 10-20% of any service I get, whether car or house related. Tired of that shit. So...fingers crossed in the f80 warranty department there.
Rambling aside, at this point it's probably best to wait until after the holidays to list it on BaT, right?

that'd be my assumption. everyone's travelling, lighting their credit cards on fire, and probably preoccupied.
if it was me i'd hold it until after tax season but that's forever from now. maybe at least wait until mid January.

it wears you down, doesn't it? it'd be one thing if the majority of services were batting a great average but when everything sucks, all the time, its hard to have the energy to single one out.

Welp, just finished the longest control arm replacement in history. Put it up on jackstands sometime before the new year, just took it down the other day. No real complications with the job, just either busy or not in the mood. I'm in the "cars break when they don't get driven" camp and was a bit worried about the shakedown run, but she feels great and the steering wheel shimmy seems to be fixed. I don't need an alignment after like-for-like control arm replacement, do I?
It's really nice to drive it again. It absolutely lacks the directness and razor-edge feeling of the f80, but man is it comfortable. It's probably more nostalgia than anything, but I wish it'd be more convenient to keep it. I'm already annoyed with juggling cars in the driveway, so I don't see that happening. Plus if I'm really gonna have a 3rd car, it's gonna be something a lot more different than another fast four door. If it had the safety features, amenities, and WARRANTY as the f80, maybe I'd swap.
So I'll enjoy it for a bit, finally get the f80 to a body shop, and then start prepping for BaT.

do one good fall cruise with it. its so pretty, and probably sounds so good, you owe it to yourself before you part with it.
i too subscribe to the "cars get cranky when they sit" newsletter. probably a good idea to exercise it anyway before it goes to BAT, for the sake of everything going smoothly. even my civic gets tappy, creaky and a bit clunky until its gone through a good heat cycle and some of the old gas is out.
