You also get a free copy of your credit report when you update your fraud alerts with the credit bureaus (which you should set a calendar reminder to do every 3 months). I think each agency is required to allow you to have one free report a year, i can't remember if I just submitted to a different agency each time to get a new one (when you update your fraud alert with one, they automatically contact the other two). Now that I can check my credit score any time I want just by logging into my banking dashboard or app, i'm not as concerned about getting it directly from Experian or TransUnion etc.

You more or less get used to this. No phone calls involved but you just toss the applications in the mail. It's only a few a week for me.
Edit: most credit card companies are starting to give your free credit scores or small reports. For example, Discover gives me free FICO Score every day. Capital One has Credit Wise which is a smaller version of Credit Karma using Equifax. My BOA card gives me a FICO Score.
Anyone else get those student loan rate reduction letters and phone calls? Today was the first phone call but I've gotten a few letters

So Bank of America just created a pretty decent "premium" travel rewards card. They are giving 50,000 miles with sign up after $3k in purchases and other perks like TSA precheck / airline incidental cost reimbursement, 2 points per dollar on travel and dining purchases and 1.5 on everything else, free travel insurance and some other concierge services. It's probably equal to or slightly less good than some of the other top tier travel rewards cards but they offer a bonus for Preferred Rewards members of 75% at our level. Which means all travel and dining purchases are 3.5 points per dollar and everything else is 2.62 (what I get currently). Since all of my business travel goes on my personal card, this is an epic upgrade and aside from the $500 in rewards points, the point modifiers will pay for the $95 yearly fee in no time (even though I said I would never pay for a credit card again)

New cards showed up this morning...they are plastic but have some cool metallic effects to them. I like that they removed the card number from the front of the card and engraved my name, card number and details into the back. Just another small security feature I guess on some of the newer cards.
Gonna phase out the old card over the next billing cycle and then move over all of my rewards points and the rest of the credit limit from it to my new one. It's a bit of a bummer that most of my travel is done for the year but I've got one more trip to Chicago at least and possibly one more trip to Idaho, so that will help to get into those high modifiers.

I have 3 cards;
1 at 9%
1 at 11%
1 I used to balance transfer that is at 0%.
All of these have no fees or bullshit which is nice. I take advantage of balance transfer offers while I pay these down so while I take the 3% hit, it gives me 12-24 months of 0% interest to aggressively pay this down or focus on student loans that are still accruing interest. I do this between the three cards fyi, they're always offering balance transfers of 0% plus 3% fee; I'm not opening new accounts.
Credit cards are also the devil or at the very least, I made them my devil. I'm glad I woke up a little bit to my reliance on them. House plus two cars and newly minted college grad that wanted to make it rain was like the perfect storm of financial implosion.

So back from the dead....
Fuck thieves...
My Costco Citi card got compromised over night.
$500 at Macy's, $300 for a rental car, both at like 4am EST.
What kinda lame ass shit are they buying?
Anyway, Citi flagged it, froze my card til I confirmed.
Cards cancelled and new card is overnighted via FedEx. Which surprised the shit outta me, figured it would be a week or so without my CC.
So kudos to Citi for a great experience in an otherwise shitty situation. A+, would use again.
Now to change my auto drafts to the new card, which I think is the most annoying thing about this situation.
Guess I should keep an eye on my Credit report over the next few months too.
That happens to me about once a year.
I want to start a product/company that gives you an interface between your CC and all your monthly subscription payments.

same. my discover card was just compromised last week....someone went to a Lowe's in Illinois and blew $1800. sounds like a party. no idea how they got my card info.
same account was compromised last year too in Fredricksburg when i was coming home from a wedding. i'm almost 100% sure someone had put a card swiper on a gas pump where i filled up, because immediately after that my account showed that someone went to a lumber yard down the road and bought a couple hundred bucks worth of stuff.
what is it with people hacking my shit to buy home improvement stuff? my credit rating is really high...thankfully discover is also super on point about these things and gets a new card in my hand usually within 24 hours.

Thought and talked to friends about this several times. I want this too but, there is a lot of hoops you'd have to go through to have this work. Good luck. Can't share card numbers through APIs, risk of exposing customer info, etc. So, you'd have to get a unique identifier, grab through api, then convert to find PAN (card number) to update on all the accounts. Just seems like something a card company themselves would have to create and even then they would have to make sure only companies following their same standards could use that tool to update subscriptions.

Always grab hold of the card reader and give it a wiggle. If it is loose at all, it is likely tampered with. We have had a rash of skimmers on gas pumps around Baltimore over the past year. I do this every time I fill up.

skimmer, thank you. couldn't remember the right name.
yeah i'm getting into the habit of starting to wiggle the card readers on gas pumps. same with ATM's. i always wonder how people manage to install those without getting caught.
