The media is interested in a close race to keep views up and protecting freedom of the press; nothing else. Coverage varies to suit those needs. The media could care less if the 2 candidates were hobos fighting each other with broom sticks in their underwear (if it could draw sufficient views for a prolonged period of time.)

Early voted today. I don't usually get all public with my voting decision but this is the first time since I began voting that I haven't seen a candidate that I saw eye to eye with on either side, much less from the party I am registered with. It was also the first time I have ever voted independent in a general election. My hope is that more and more people start to do so so that there are more legitimate options to choose from should the two major parties throw spaghetti at the wall for their candidates again. Although Johnson has a snowball's chance in hell of winning the presidency, I don't feel my vote was wasted at all. If we as Americans legitimately don't feel that there is a good Repub or Democratic option to vote for, I believe you should put your money where your heart is and start the movement toward creating legitimacy for a third, or fourth, or fifth, etc. party.

You're right, DJ. It's our fault.
Maybe I should make a group chat with alumni in it. Oh wait, I did and everyone left and was an ass. Maybe I should just hamper the club by not using a quick and effecient way to communicate to everyone. I'd love for current students to join, and I plug the forum at least twice a week on the forum, the twitter, or on Facebook as well as meetings, but don't blame the group chat. Let's face it, Message Boards will never be as they once were. Most everyone who is active here was in high school before Facebook was huge. Nowadays people dont need anything other than Facebook to stay in touch. Yeah, none of the new members know alums, and that's something that happens as the length MM has existed increased. When would any of these people have had a chance to meet any of you this year? Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk

I didn't go to JMU and I've never met most of the people on this board. :dunno:
It's fair to say forums have peaked as a medium, but I'm not sure the use cases are the same as Facebook. These forums aren't about keeping in touch, they're about (sometimes thoughtful) discussion on a myriad of topics. That's a lot harder in a single threaded conversation where people type 1-2 sentences at a time. My guess is current students were raised in a texting world, so communication is short and instant gratification. Most of us here were raised on email - longer and a lot less instant, like these forums. Then again, I just learned a few days ago that cereal sales are down because Millenials don't want to wash the bowl... so I probably know nothing about kids these days.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

If anyone has constructive suggestions on how we can improve the forum experience for the non bowl washers so we don't abandon 12 years of organized discussion for an overgrown scroll, I can help make that happen.

Are we really discussing this again? This has come up in at least 3 different threads. I'm tired of seeing this whiney shit about the forum. Make a new thread if you guys want to keep repeating the same things over and over.

My largest gripe with the forum is how hard it is to upload images on mobile. If we made that better and also added social login (so All the kids too lazy to sign up can just sign in from Facebook) would that help?

i promise i'm not being a Luddite, but seriously how can anyone convey any information on a detailed topic on a facebook chat? i'm trying to imagine doing a build thread on facebook with any semblance of organization. forums just seem so much easier.
then again i didn't even know forums were going out of style so this is all new to me anyway.

Forums going out of style is new to me too but I've never been one to care a ton for the latest and greatest technology to keep up with the neighbors like the youngins seem to now. Is it possible to add a live chat feed to the forum? There's definitely a time and place for Facebook chat but I'm with Scotty, for complex conversation, build threads or for looking up archived questions / answers the forum is still a really good medium.

We need something like Slack. That would help satisfy students and alumni in a fantasy world. Messaging where you can create separate channels for "threads" as well as talk in those channels or "threads" but it's IM like for the students. :dunno:
