Bye Wachovia!
They have ruined the best independent brokerage firm in the US. AG Edwards was by far the best brokerage firm around. Management at AG Edwards was bored and wanted more more more. Ben Edwards, the former CEO was a champion for the firm and wanted nothing to do with Wachovia. The deal was done after he stepped down as CEO. His son "Tad" Edwards was a failure and a spoiled rich punk that probably couldn't balance his checkbook, because he never had to. Albert Gallatin Edwards is rolling over in his grave! One can only hope that Ben comes in and takes them private again.
Well, that's no surprise. At least it's over with.

I think the Media is going to do its best to ruin all of the other banks as well with its hysteria. Elliot in the Morning was all but telling people to go withdraw every penny they had.

Wow... serious?
Quote:In her speech before the vote, Pelosi, a California Democrat, said the Bush administration's policies were ``built on budgetary recklessness, on an anything-goes mentality, with no regulation, no supervision and no discipline in the system.''
Lets fire up the wayback machine... and party like its 1999

Quote:Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits.
In moving, even tentatively, into this new area of lending, Fannie Mae is taking on significantly more risk, which may not pose any difficulties during flush economic times. But the government-subsidized corporation may run into trouble in an economic downturn, prompting a government rescue similar to that of the savings and loan industry in the 1980's.
''From the perspective of many people, including me, this is another thrift industry growing up around us,'' said Peter Wallison a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. ''If they fail, the government will have to step up and bail them out the way it stepped up and bailed out the thrift industry.''
Peter Wallison for President!

I thought this article from a Harvard economist summed the whole situation up pretty well.

I'm not being combative. I really want to know. What did Pelosi do? Why was it a bad choice?
