Yeah, more experience is key. Just need more seat time. I wasn't going all out because I realized I was rubbing everywhere and smacking my lip. I cracked it and chipped it as well as slightly tore it off. I don't know if I'll auto-x again until I get a good suspension set-up and able to move down to STF which will probably be after college unless I sell the wheels I have now... . Me don't want to do that though, me loves ridiculous 9inch wheels and 245 tire on a Mazda3. I'm surprised I was able to keep up with some cars that I did and I know it can definitely do better... We will see though.
Whoever had that gray/silver STI that thing was crazy though....
Also, anyone know if there are any 1st group pictures? Looks like that is the only group without photos up
I've been neurotically checking the link every few hours for pics of our group, I want to see if someone got me in the middle of my panic braking to not wipe all the cones out of the lane change box.

Man they have results from back in the day still up. I found times from my first autocross in 2002 (Verona was called Staunton back then?) - I bested last place in a loaded HS class by over half a second, suckas! I bet I've got pictures on a HD in a drawer somewhere.

Also Ryan, I meant to tell you during the event - I give that front lip 2 months, tops. That thing is too low and far forward to be pretty for long.

Especially in Hburg. I spent five minutes driving around Hburg dropping Matthew off at his house after the autocross, and I'm happy to report I only scraped my lip three times and bottomed out once.

Ha yeah... I have to drive crazy careful and I know people are getting pissed at me for driving slow up ramps and other places. Learning where I can't and can drive. I used to complain when I was lowered 2 inches and people didn't believe because my car "wasn't that low"... Little do they realize you could fit two fists in my wheel gap at stock height so yeah. Auto-x aftermath:
so many photos....

started recognizing group 1 about page 9.
I had a blast on sunday, although i'm pretty sure the '02 hates me now.
A couple of guys were trying to help me figure out classes in the book, but they were basically like, your car is too old to be listed in here, so here's some letters.
It's funny to think that I was still on the course for a good 10 seconds after Ryan was done, and almost 20 seconds behind Matt's sti. but hey, i got more drive time than almost anyone else; so there.
Thanks for the ride-along Will, although going from my car to yours, I was 100% sure we were going to die as we came into the first turn, but then, real breaks!
Wish my work schedule let me do a lap with you Jake, woulda loved to see your car in action. Hopefully next time.

If it weren't taboo for non-novice's to get ride-alongs in earlier heats, I would've jumped in the '02 in a second. That thing is a beauty! One day...

No need to apologize. I would have been disappointed if you didn't!
2002 Mazda Protegé5
So Matt, whose car were you driving?
The '95 Miata? It is mine. Well, it's basically the "family fun car." It was my DD for a while but after I hit a deer in it I got the Solara.
2002 Mazda Protegé5
Okay, I figured it was one of the "then" cars in your signature.
Yeah, not all of my "thens" are sold. A couple are still in the family. We like to swap apparently.

Wasn't the driving that got me, I think it was more the drastic contrast between cars. With your M having an more than 3x the power I didn't mentally prepare for how much faster we'd be going; then when we flew by the '02's breaking point for that first turn I was hock:

aw man, should have just jumped in. some random guy I'd never met did on the first run, and there was nobody on the 4th until Nate ran in as I was on the starting line. hopefully another time i'll be able to stay around for fun runs and you can take it out for some laps.

What I find more impressive is that the 2002 did not get the slowest overall time.
davej Wrote:...when we flew by the '02's breaking point for that first turn I was hock: Is the 2002 still on the same tires? I bet with some real tires and the suspension you put on there, it would be greatly improved. Well, assuming it doesn't just start ripping out suspension mounts then
Well, I enjoyed seeing some pictures of it in action!

Yep! those 10 year old Michelin touring tires or whatever they are took a beating that day.
and only have the konis/h&r's in the front, still have to put the backs on. you're right about the mounts though...i'd better go check them tonight. =)

have you no faith?! it beat like at least 4 other cars, and possibly one lawn mower.
