Do it!!! Tell us how awesome it is. Drove by a dealer last week and they had a few convertibles out front. If I wasn't going somewhere important I was going to stop to check them out.

Well, I got called to Atlanta to give input into a new sales training program so I missed the F Type Coupe event It's probably for the better honestly
Car just ticked over 19,000 miles today. This is the least amount of driving I have ever done in a year, which is a nice change.
In typical me fashion, I stopped by a few dealerships today while I had my car dropped off to fix some tint that had bubbles that hadn't worked their way out. After a conversation with my brother in Arlington who traded in his prestige package S4 on a Grand Cherokee Laredo, I started to agree with a lot of the arguments he made for not having a high performance car in a major metro area. Traffic and the roads down here have gotten significantly worse, I have found that it is really hard for me to open up my car anywhere and I am having to pick my routes to avoid construction traffic & potholes. I have been tossing around the idea of picking up a truck or SUV, potentially trading this car in at some point but not necessarily serious about doing it any time soon. We may also look at one when my wife's car comes off lease.
I stopped by the Toyota dealership and checked out a 1792 edition Tundra. It is very nice but there is nothing that really stands out about it for the price. I also looked at the Land Cruiser, which at $80k is a serious LOL. I guess that is the reason why you never see any new ones on the road. We then popped into the Ford dealership and checked out the F150s after having driven my buddy's '13 HD F150 that was pretty sweet. The Ford trucks were superior to the Tundra in pretty much every way. The Platinum trim had an incredible interior (we had the wood grain, off-reddish color) and I actually took it for a test drive. It drives fine, just like a truck but there's no wow factor really. I do miss driving a truck and it was very comfortable. They didn't have any Raptors to drive but the GM of the dealership stopped by and he had a black on black one. If anyone remembers, I actually looked at Raptors as an option before I narrowed it down to the XF. Definite wow factor, not quite as sweet of an interior but they have a luxury package now that makes it a little nicer. After looking at a bunch online, it is crazy how well they hold their value. 2010-2013, 200 or 20k miles, all of them are almost exactly the same price...$53-55k which is what you can spec one for with a bunch of options brand new. Apparently they are really popular for use in Baja racing and that has kept the price all across the nation pretty high on them. Still, would be a tough pill to swallow going from my car to a Ford truck for more money and less performance / features.
I had the guy run numbers on my car just out of curiousity to see what trade in offer they would make, and predictably they used the lowest of the low end of NADA which was almost insulting considering the condition and milesage of the car. I got a call and email from the sales guy when I got home an hour later offering I am not even kidding $8000 more for my trade in if I bought a Raptor. They have a black on black spec edition with the luxury package on the way that I want to take a look at for the future, but there are a few creature comforts that would be tough to live without at that price point (heated/cooled seats).
If nothing else I ruled out the Tundra for the future. I would REALLY like to see the Ecoboost engine show up in the Raptor which it may within the next year, or they may be discontinuing it altogether apparently. Ford is moving to an all aluminum frame next year so I am curious to see how that translates to their spec edition trucks as well. My wife was completely sold on the Platinum edition and it was extremely nice but...it didn't excite me to drive it and that's one of my top 3 important factors for a vehicle.
In the Jag world, another company across the pond just released a tune pulley combo for under a grand (tune without pulley would be a little cheaper) that can be uploaded through an Android tablet or phone. Sweet! They are also mapping economy, valet maps, etc. like the Accessport had for my Subarus. The list of reasons not to get a tune are shrinking rapidly, especially since I can swap back to the stock map if necessary with my cell phone.

seriously though, have you driven an ecoboost F150? they will surprise you. Pete's drives like a tall caddy and feels every bit of what it costs. with tuning you can gain something completely ridiculous, like 150lb. ft. and 100hp...on stock turbos. they can move.

Yeah the brand new Platinum that I test drove was an Ecoboost. It was very very nicely appointed, just drives obviously like a truck. Throttle response was sluggish and it felt really slow, or maybe it was the transmission I don't know. The guys at Evolution said the same thing when I told them I was looking at the trucks, they said they had done several with intakes, exhaust and tunes that run circles around the V8s. I would definitely go that route if I ended up in a truck...it's crazy how decent they are on gas for what they are.
I forgot to mention a modded V10 M6 wanted to have some fun with me on the way home. I have matured a lot as I am getting older so I didn't do anything retarded, but I took a 270* off ramp to the road heading to my house at a healthy speed and he was RIGHT on me. My car felt like it was plowing compared to his. I refuse to be an asshat in traffic (which this road has a lot of) but it didn't stop him from punching it and half fish-tailing around me. It looked to be lowered and had some kind of aftermarket exhaust. Pretty sure that car would rape me on a road course, maybe at the drag strip it would be close but I am not sure! That car was also at a lot higher price point than mine when it was brand new so I didn't feel too bad

I'm not a huge fan of that generation of M6. They're just not very good looking and something like 95% of them were sold with that SMG transmission, which is great when you're going balls to the wall but pretty terrible in any other situation. However, the one in that video sounds downright erotic. (dem shifts tho)

Test-drive a 2014 GMC. You will be pleasantly surprised with the ride. Their v8 returns better gas mileage than the eco-boost with comparable horsepower/torque figures and is a simple as stupid motor. The GM is definitely weaker interior.
I know people love their Ford trucks, and love the "buzz" of ecoboost and turbos and what not. But better gas mileage in a v8 (and radically better during towing), and better ride in the GM. Ranks consistently higher over the Ford. This may all change with the aluminum F150 coming.

DJ I will have to check out the GMC. I know the Denali is pretty sick. I have a hard time shopping GM out of principle though after the engineering / recall disaster they are dealing with right now.
Jon, I definitely agree...even modded this one wasn't the most attractive looking car. It kind of looked frumpy faced and the rear end looks weird to me. It did sound like a war started and went like stink though!

Anddd feeling slight vibrations from the rear differential again when turning 90* left from a stop. Car will head back to the shop at some point to have it checked out after Dan works his magic on it this weekend.
We just wanted to get out of the house this weekend so I swung by the Range Rover dealership to get a look at a few of their models. Specifically I wanted to see the Evoque and the RR Sport. The Evoque is actually really nice, very comfortable seats but not quite as "luxurious" on the inside as the RR class. Not a bad size for a smaller SUV and would probably fit the bill if we went that route. Panorama roof is sweet. 2.0T I am not sold on but I would like to get a test drive at some point when I have time....the dealer said there is a chance that Tata may put the supercharged 6 banger into the Evoque that is in some of the XFs and the new F Type (non V8)...that would make me look a lot harder at it! Brand new they can be spec'd out for less than what I paid for my car which is a bonus.
RR Sport with the V6S and V8 are both obviously really nice. Even the base model is very comfortable and pretty well equipped. I would definitely want to go CPO on one of those though, base RR with the V6 starts at $70K  For a decent low mileage V8 / V8S example it's going to be likely in the $52-$65k range which is a lot of money (but IMO better spent that on a brand new truck). Supposedly post 2010 RR's are supposed to be a lot more reliable than they used to be but I would have to do a lot more research on them. I think I am pretty much decided that there really isn't an SUV that makes it move more than my car does right now so we would probably look at replacing my wife's Elantra with one when her lease is up in 2 years.
This one was pretty sweet we looked at yesterday, if it was a model year newer and had a few less miles on it: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.landrovercharlotte.com/certified/Land+Rover/2011-Land+Rover-Range+Rover+Sport-460793aa0a0a00641042de07de93df5b.htm">http://www.landrovercharlotte.com/certi ... 93df5b.htm</a><!-- m -->
The interior did not look orange like it does in those pictures for some reason, it was more of a burnt reddish and looked so nice.
I will say that the Range Rover sales guy was probably the best car salesman I have ever worked with. As polished as a salesperson as you will find even in my industry, absolutely no pressure and knew more about his products than I did (which is rare). Handled objections well and definitely someone I would feel comfortable working with. That has to be one of the best car sales jobs though, he said they essentially just take orders for new Range Rovers and they are delivered later in the year....and any inventory they get has a waiting list. He told us he had already written contracts for two that morning, which would explain his lack of pressure. The Jag dealer told me they would love to be able to sell RR's too because they are such good revenue but they can't because Rick Hendrick has a monopoly on them in the area (state?)
Oh we also swung by the Jag dealer (which was closed) and looked at the F Type Coupe. HNGRRGH. All they had was black which truthfully does not look as good on that car as white does. The trunk space and dimensions look totally different than the convertible and possibly just as small. At some distant point in the future if I ever looked at one I would have to do the golf club bag test. They definitely wouldn't fit in the convertible trunk but I don't know that the coupe would be any better.

I am sure SRT8 Grand Cherokees will be right in your price range around then You recommended the XF and you recommend another good vehicle that I had actually considered (after spending some time in my brother's Overland edition). Good newer examples are still $65k+ on the used market which again is putting me into Range Rover territory. I will definitely have it on the radar though when the time comes

I really like the look of the Evoque. I looked into them but they are soooo tiny. Not the SUV to have if you're planning on procreating, but I do see a bunch of rich college kids in them here at GWU so I guess thats who LR is shooting for.
