Mossberg 500 or Remington 870.

Sorry no. And yeah, you won't hear me complaining or even jokingly complaining about marriage like most people I know do. It's been great and I insist that it continue.

Eh, if I got a 12G (thinking about it), it would be a short Mossberg with folding stock for sure! If that makes it "tactical", whatever, it's way more useful for home defense IMHO than some long, full stock thing. I fired one and I thought it was perfect. And my penis is average size thank you very much.

So you don't think that a 9mm would stop any intruder?

I mean, if you're just shooting for fun buy a .22

Ok, so I think they are dumb. But we also have my 20 guage youth shotgun for home defense. I mean I use it to shoot trap too, but otherwise we keep it around cause its handy and small, but I wouldnt' want to be on the business side of it.

Personally I don't like how glocks feel in my hand, I've shot a few of them and they certaintly are nice guns, but not for me. I'm gonna get some hate for saying this, but everyone that's been shooting with me has heard this, I have a Ruger P89 9mm and it's my favorite gun. It's accurate, relatively light for a larger gun and I've put 1700 rounds through it without any jams/misfires/bobbles/anything.

I have a springfield XD .40 sub-compact (3") that is a fun and reliable gun to shoot but not horribly accurate due to its small size. The sights are large and easy to use on a quick pull though.

I had a Taurus Millenium .40 and that gun SUCKED. It would jam at least once every 50 rounds and wasn't accurate for shit. I traded it to get the XD and the XD is WELL worth the extra money if that is the type gun your in the market for.

I recently traded my .45LC revolver in for a Rock Island Armory 1911 and it is the best feeling gun I have ever held in my hand. I haven't gotten to shoot it yet but if it shoots anything like it feels it will quickly replace my Ruger as my favorite gun.

As far as home defense goes I've got a mossberg 500 with a tactical handle (no stock, just a pistol grip). It's a nice gun that hasn't given me any problems. All black, loud, but a pain to shoot from the hip. My wrist has to be slightly tweaked to shoot it from the hip and since I have pins and plates in my forearm it causes some discomfort, but if I hold it up in front of me one handed it isn't bad to shoot at all. I've also got a bolt action J.R. Stevens 410 shotgun but I wouldn't recommend it for anything other than picking off groundhogs in the garden.

Any comments on the article/news I posted? It really seems like a potentially big deal. Or at least some verification that the writing is on the wall. If you guys come across any other related, new ominous stories, please share so I can get all whipped up into a frenzy and justify buying some more ammo.

It seems like just regular National Guard stuff, no? You know, being prepared for civil unrest, attacks and natural disasters on our soil.

Thats what I got out of it.

However, you can just use the Boy Scout theory and be prepared. For anything. With all of the threats we have these days, such as civil unrest, aliens, and zombies, can you ever really have enough ammo. And either way, I see buying guns and ammunition as a way to support the 2nd amendment anyway; no ones going to argue with the guy who has more firepower than the average platoon.

It is? This is talking about an active Army brigade being assigned to home, not national guard. I barely know the difference. But I thought the article made it clear that this is not a normal thing, it's "the first time an active unit has been given a dedicated assignment to NorthCom", only in other recent natural disasters has it happened on a temporary basis. So I guess I figured someone else thought too the chance for disaster was much higher than usual.

No? :dunno: Business as usual?

btw, my trip to Sam's, Sportsman's Warehouse, and a gas station yesterday didn't spark massive anarchy, so... bonus! They were pretty busy though.... and there were some possible zombies (they might have just been old people) at Sam's, and Sportsman's DID looked a little low on guns.... Confusedhock: OMG!

Sounds more like they're making them do a NG equivalent while they're home. Probably because all our National Guard are in Iraq. :?

Yes and no. The military has been an active participant (although not entirely disclosed) in natural disasters for some time. The purpose of the latest legislation is aimed at granting them more "official" authority to do so, provide a domestic deployment option (to minimize time away from families), and give our armed forces more "humanitarian" training.
