Raises

Point taken.

I remember some of the detailed questions I've had to go over with HR and Legal about certain liabilities...

"Have you documented in writing that you told [insert Rhodes Scholar here] on at least 3 occasions that only checking his/her email once a a day and missing meetings was considered unacceptable?"

I suppose I take some things for granted.

we've had to lay off 10 people so far...one just last friday out of a ~40 person office. we're preparing for hard times although we're even with profits last year at this time.

i had my review on friday. i've had alot more responsibilities put on me this year and managed a 2% raise that i'm extremely grateful for. i was expecting raises to be frozen.

on a different note i'm getting into stocks now thanks to that other damn thread and some outside influence. so whatever raise i got i'll probably blow on bonehead investments

I don't want to get too specific i'm not sure what all is public yet, but my company is hiring. We just had our merit increases and I got %10.5 but I also had a high performance rating..not sure what an average contributor got, but I think they probably gave at least 3%

just food for thought for any of you looking, or about to be

we got rid of 3 folks... no more free sodas, no more home internet reimbursement, no raises this year, no more 401k matching... but profits haven't been hurt a bit... just playing it safe.

How do people take it when they've been busting their ass and find out they don't get a raise? I'd probably start looking right away, unless I was already overpaid, or in a good position to advance quickly because my boss was about to jump ship

We're business as usual.

But we're full on government contractor so we're pretty well insulated. And actually, I think this year is probably going to be the best in the company's history.

Is it sad I'd rather it go down the shitter than reward the idiots that run this company?

That kinda sucks. Sodas, internets, and raises is one thing, but if business is ok, taking away pretty standard and counted on benefits is kinda lame. I would feel pretty comfortable raising a stink about that. :x

Business is decent here, we were seriously in the red at end of last year and people were afraid of firings. There were some pay cuts, mostly to some seriously overpaid people here. But with a couple good customers now, I think we'll be ok. They (the folks in charge) say '09 could be a banner year, and we're in the process of hiring a couple tech support people. :dunno:

I'm doing my old job and my new job under a different title. no raise, double the work, and we get a standard raise for 3-5% no matter how much you bust your ass. when i have a day off the whole project stops... but i'm not worth much to my company apparently... which is fine, i'll keep looking.

My new company is expanding rapidly. I just came on board a couple of weeks ago - it's very interesting work with a truly "agile" development team. The benefits are a little worse than SAIC, but not bad for a small company. Salary is a lot better, and they pay for all the extra hours, so at the moment, it's almost a 40% increase from my last job.

i'm ok with it for now. it's a good place to work and i have pretty fantastic job security. not many other software companies have been around 20+ years.

My annual review is coming up over the next couple weeks (they're writing it now). I haven't heard any rumors about policy changes to them yet, but that might just mean that I haven't been talking to the right people. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed and, uhm, patiently waiting, if you will.

People get angry, update their resumes on monster, realize there aren't any jobs available they'd want and go back to work... just not as hard.
