I don't think that's a great deal.

I never said it was. It's a little inflated, by about 2 grand.

Ryan, you know me, and I know you pretty well in terms of your driving preference (I think).

No WRX, you will not like driving it, drive one. Its not your style of car. I may be eating my words, but drive it first, who knows, I could be wrong. (not bashing wrxs, but after what Ryan has driven Camaro, supra, corvettes, its a weird animal, wrxs are great cars, but I personally would never even think of owning one)

Corvette I think is the top on your list for what you should be looking for. The corvette gets awesome gas mileage for a v8, doesnt handle like a trans-am and still has rwd and torque. The only thing I would see why you wouldnt get one, and the only reason, is because rear seats and the fact that your brother and mother has one.

Trans-am, awesome, but handling, after driving the supra youll go nuts with a trans-am and its weight and antique suspension and chassis design.

Truck, I dont think this would be too bad of an idea, but im afraid youll miss out on a lot of fun when you see us all running around in sports cars at autocrosses. I know I would.

s2000 will just drive you crazy with no torque. Mike and whoever owns an s2000 please dont start preaching, I have driven like 3 s2000s, and I personally own a turbo car with no torque below 2500 anyway and I cant stand it. Awesome cars, but again, coming from an ls1, the s2000 will quickly go old.

I personally feel you should not sell it. And if you do, dont sell it below 15500. There is no reason you cant pick up that much money for one. Especially if you listed it in the DC/MD/NOVA region.

Same as the camaro he used to own.... they're still fun cars to drive. I dont care for the interiors and the general build quality but they are a hoot to drive and handle well.

IIRC, he bought it for under $10k, and that was over 2 years ago. $13k is certainly a fair price for it, especially with the stock wheels.

nobody with half a brain would argue that the s2000 has torque. it's basically a pretty looking civic when you're just putting around town, which i kind of like. when i get on it, it f'ing goes. i can't agree that it'll "quickly go old," though. heck, i'm not sure what that even means Tongue

my only real gripe is my top, which has been solved in the '03 and later models. with that taken care of, i think it's the perfect car for someone with no kids and no need to tote things around.

wow, there's a lot going on here. First off, I'd like to point out that Thayer's a dolt for wanting to get rid of his car, especially when I'm not in a good position to buy it at a discount, strip it, and track the shit out of it :-).
Now that that is out of the way, there's a few things that I think are pretty important to this. I feel like the list might be a bit limited, though it does give a good idea of what you're thinking about. Ryan, you're about to graduate soon, so do you forsee needing the utility of a backseat or truck in the near future? How important is gas economy and do you see yourself driving a lot? I'll go through your choices:
-I know you've got a truck, so you'd be a crackhead for getting another one. I mean, seriously, who needs more than one truck? :-D
-If you sell your supra and buy another one, that would be retarded. You've got one of the rarest forms you can get, it's in great shape, it sounds and looks fantastic and, unless something's changed, you've had virtually no problems with it and have always been very pleased with it. Selling it, regardless of how much profit, and buying somebody else's supra with a shady history would be an exercise is stupidity considering how good yours is. If you seriously need to drive a targa supra, let me know and we can arrange a trade for a little while, but it's no reason to sell yours :-D
-You've had the camaro before and you read my last paragraph. If you're going to do something dumb like that, at least get the Corvette.
-Corvettes are cool, but they are so cliche. If I see a young guy driving a corvette, a lot of the time I think they must not have much imagination since that's what old guys get in their crisis to convince themselves they've done well in life. Young guys in vettes strike me that they want everybody to think they're doing well, but couldn't think of something cool to drive to show it. Rant over; they are a cool car and being that you'll actually drive it at events, you don't fall into this category. However, you've got two in your family and I get the impression you could drive one pretty much whenever you wanted. If my dad had an NSX that I could drive occaisionally, I don't think I'd have as much desire to spend my money and buy one. That said, it would be cool to have three in the family, although it'd put a lot of pressure on Russ :-).
-S2000 are a great-looking car. Verts don't really do much for me, but I can see the appeal to some. If I had an S2000, I'd want to track it, so it's not really an option for me :-). They strike me as being a little too impractical considering the limited cargo and only one extra seat. I don't use it often, but the hatch and back seat of the supra have been invaluable for both of us on several occaisions.
-Lastly, the WRX. Man, what an amazing compromise vehicle. Quick, decent looking, ability to get to work no matter the conditions, huge aftermarket, tons of potential, decent on gas, there seriously isn't much not to love. I often catch myself desiring one or an EVO, considering they can be had fairly cheap now as well. However I really did not enjoy AWD in my Talon. It moved like a raped ape, but it just wasn't RWD and it killed a lot of the enjoyment for me. Considering your lineage of cars and tastes, I think the WRX might do that for you as well. Test drive one, or even try to borrow one from a friend if you know somebody (or any AWD car for that matter), just to see if this is true.

If it were me, I'd probably split the money. Get something nice to daily drive, get something cheap to abuse on the track. An E36 325 to daily with a track miata, 240, or MR2 might even leave you with a bit of money to play with if you shopped and played your cards right.

i could definitely see you driving a WS-6 or SS f-body. my vote from your list would be a WRX wagon.

i was about to suggest the RX-8 but you'd definitely not enjoy the torqueless nature.

maybe E36 M3? MR2 turbo? not really sure what you're after but all of your suggestions sound like fun kinds of cars.

Except that if he waited he would definitely find someone willing to pay that if he listed it. In Northern Virginia, ive had tons of friends or friends of friends pay more than that for a not-as-good condition as Ryan's Supra. Even with that many miles.

not that I have seen. granted Ive never gone out of my way to look for one, but when does pop up for sale its typically $30k+ for very high miles.
I saw one once for $20k and it was a complete shitpile.

yep, 30ish is what you'll find a worthwhile nsx for. that'll unfortunately be a 12 year old car too Sad

I can never see Dad's LS-6 powered CTS-V get anywhere near 28 mpg on the highway. What's the secret to good fuel economy or is it the weight penalty that forces the V to get such horrible fuel economy in comparison to the Vette? FYI the car is driven like grandma and fuel economy is still around 14 around town!

I'm not entirely sure what causes the difference, but every corvette I've driven has done great on gas. Even driving it semi-hard in town I can still get 18-19mpg in town. If your really ragging on it you can get shitty gas mileage of course, I averages something like 5 or 6 in the autocross. With the automatic transmission you can drive the car around all day at a leisurely pace and never cross 2000rpms.

C5 Weight: 3214
C6 Weight: 3179
CTS-V Weight: 3850 Lbs

So, that's alot of it right there. I imagine drag coefficient comes into play as well.

It's not so bad. 14MPG around town for 400hp is nothing to shake a stick at.

My comments should be read more as "The Corvette is an amazing automobile, and bravo to GM for not making it heavier."

But CTS-V gets to 60 in 4.6 seconds, and whoo-hoo the C6 does it in 4.1.

Hardly worth noting, and not bad for an extra 500 lbs.

500lbs also eats tires and brakes faster, in addition to gas. It all adds up Smile
