I think the 2.5RS is the best choice for what you've said you're looking for. But if you must:

Silver MS Protege

I'm a little leary of the MS Protege's because of a few quality f-ups I've heard about but there is at least one of those in the club and apparently he hasn't had problems.

EDIT: Goddamn! That was a long ass link

i don't know too much about the car (or the quality issues) except that there was an ECU glitch in the first run of cars where it pulled back timing too much or something related to heat from sitting in traffic or high intake temps.

what i do know, is that these cars are awesome to drive. Ryan Wilson owns one (former club member, graduated last year) and he really enjoys it. even though its not that high on power for a turbo car, its still quick the equipment that thing comes with is awesome. LSD, racing beat suspension, incredible sound system, sparco interior trim, sweet brakes and the callaway designed turbo setup. if i remember correctly Ryan did really really well the first/only time he autocrossed it.

it seems i may have some extra cash lying around after i get the car for a little basic work on it

so, now the question becomes not onlywhich car, but what basic mods would be good to start out on...

wings are equal to at least 10 whp, and if it's combined with an MM sticker its equal to a 50 shot of NOS

honestly the best modifications i made to my car were a rear sway bar, better brake pads and good tires. it really transformed the car. for the money, its hard to beat that combo.

Gee, that doesn't sound like something a Honda owner would say! Though I'd agree, minus the cosmetic stuff - get tires instead.
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

Example-
1985 Dodge SHELBY Charger. Turbo, 5-speed, and in great shape. $1000 and it is in PA. Hell, its a find...I'm a dumbass for building my own. But it's kinda like the 6 million dollar man. "I will build it better, faster, and stronger."

It's more like an old Dodge.

Start out with just tires and pads. Get to know the car and its handling. Master balancing it through turns and get the feel for how it recovers from a slide. Then upgrade rear swaybar and maybe shocks/springs.

The first mod you should do is get the thing paid off, if you're borrowing money to buy it.

If you're not, the first mod should be some track time.
