my initial plan was to cut them out for ducts, but i saw one that a guy put little fogs in and it didn't look that bad, maybe a bit too modern though. will most likely leave them open for ducts.
didn't' notice the round mirrors before, now i kind of want. :finger:

after finally getting sick of no dash lights, I traced down a loss of continuity on the board and just jumped these two spots.
I know from experience that driving for the first time and seeing your dash lit up is a great feeling. Also, congrats on going almost a year between posts!
Nice! My car has a dead spot around 4k on the tach, I took it apart and checked it out a long time ago and all the bulbs work, I wonder what's causing it.

I just got used to speed control by ear when driving at night :dunno:
Not exactly the kind of car that you can accidentally be going 80+ MPH in....
Did the fuel and temp gauge ever wake up?
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a van is a good guy with a van
yeah, back around page two I replaced the fuel tank sensor, that fixed the gas gauge. oh, and the dimming switch works now as well since the cluster is back =D (car wasn't on in the photo, just turned the lights on)
also added another ground off the cluster which keeps the temp gauge from dancing with the blinkers.
...on the down side though, the alternator isn't charging back to the battery again, maybe another split in the wiring somewhere, or maybe I keep getting bum units from napa.
Hold on to your hat Taylor, here comes a second post in the same month.
first up, alternator died again, this makes the 3rd one from NAPA, I don't know if I'm getting junk units or if there's something with the wiring that's toasting them. The car had been converted to a GM 2 wire vs the original which had an external voltage regulator. I haven't changed any of the connection paths, nor have I researched to fully understand how they hooked it up. Either way, I bought one new one from NAPA and the others have been free99 replacements.
I also got sick of seeing the rear suspension sitting in a box for a year, so decided to do that one night this week. The springs were a pain to get in and out, I'm ashamed to admit how many times I had to compress/remove/re-compress as I was trying to work the springs in place. There just wasn't enough room for the Autozone compressor to fit with out all the stars aligning.
Highlight of my 'doh' moment was when putting the H&R in, I had put the compressor head in and screwed it up to the top of the spring where there was no space for the head to go directly in. (had to get it higher on the spring to compress it enough) Feeling like a champ when I get it all mounted up, and decompressed until I try to spin it back down the spring to remove and the head won't fit between spring and body, so compress it again, take out and swear at it.
I don't know if it's right or not, but they are on.

Springs look ok to me.

I've been enjoying it a lot more ever since I got another car to daily. Also, it's about time for my yearly thread update. I didn't do much at all to the car with the school project last year, but dropped off the car with John Estep before the MM car show to put the fender flares on. A little miscommunication, he didn't actually cut out the old fenders, just put the flares on, but did a real nice job making the knee trim for it. I still need to figure out if I want to go back and cut them out. I stole the basketweaves from the e30 and they do rub a bit on hard turns. John also rewired the ignition coil in an attempt to get the car to start again. (In case I didn't post that, the car died while idling in the driveway last fall and wouldn't start again, then ended up sitting over the winter) Whatever he did on the rewire killed the electric fan, tach/fuel & temp gauges, so I've got to track those down at some point.
Plans for the next 365 days include
- getting the fogs on finally (if I can fab brackets for the old bumper holes),
- convert the rear bumper to an early model
- look into moar power, maybe with a weber 38/38 or if I get crazy, another cam and some side draft 45's
- make it to The Vintage in NC. (Chan, you gotta come also)
I realized the car turned 40 this year and is still a CILF, in my book. (car i'd like to flog)

Met up with some friends on their way to The Vintage.
The flares look so bitchin. Good to see the plan (slowly) coming together.

I keep finding myself staring at listings of these things lately.
Wanna trade the M3 and this for the summer?

that actually doesn't sound like a completely terrible idea...I'll still have the auto to bomb around in when the need to smell horse hair and burning oil hits.
Oh, forgot to add to the list the battery relocation, I picked up a rear strut mount/battery tray from TEP, pretty straight forward install except for the fact UPS somehow managed to bend the mount tabs which is probably 3/8" metal. Still trying to figure that out with their claims dept.

davej Wrote:horse hair and burning oil I would probably like the Miata even more if I swapped in some old BMW seats and poured a quart of used oil all over the carpet.

My Miata came with a fantastic smell pre-installed. Just the right mixture of mildewy carpet and fuel when you opened up the cabin to let you know you were driving a really authentic piece of crap.

My trunk had this smell. Oil, sweaty feet, and mildew. Truly enchanting.
