I do know for a fact that they were looking into RFI as a possible cause to the accelerator issue, and thats coming from the toyota training center in baltimore. Electric power steering is nothing but trouble anyway, and it makes the steering feel like shit.

In my mind, automotive engine technology has become entirely too reliant on computers and sensors, making them prone to failure later on and creating a maintenance nightmare. Examples:
-Why does a motor need to have 2 or more coolant temperature sensors (my SHO has 2, DSM has 3 IIRC)? Wouldn't it make more sense to use one sensor to feed the engine computer AND the temperature gauge?
-Do the benefits of coil on plug ignition outweigh their replacement costs and seemingly early failure rates? A good coil pack can give you most of the spark control, more voltage and a much longer lifespan than COP.

Evo guys with over 600whp actually went back to DSM coil packs because their Coil on Plug had them breaking up in the higher rpms. In another 5 years im sure aftermarket coil on plugs will be MUCH better than any current coil packs.

People tried the newer setup and found it actually degraded performance.

Finally got around to this today, in a DEADLY '10 Camry as well!  hock:  hock:
Full throttle. Got up to 90 or so. Pushed on the brake, still full throttle. It's easy to slow the car, no surprise here, brakes feel normal.
Jabbed at the brake twice more, now we're talking. Sure enough, no more brake booster. It takes quite a bit more pedal pressure now, and I can see this being an issue for an old person or a 14 yr old girl. I still pretty easily slow down to 35 or so, let it run back up to 90, drag it back down again. I repeat this twice more, no real signs of brake fade, and stopping the car would not be a challenge at all, even downhill.
I can smell the brakes now of course, but really, this was just not a big deal. There's PLENTY more brake than engine, and there's enough heat dissipation to handle multiple stops against full throttle. A little better than I expected actually. :dunno:
FWIW, I ended up with a '10 Prius a month or so ago and played with it a bit, but it's even less interesting. Fortunately, for whatever reason, Toyota decided that the Prius should kill the throttle when you're on the brake. So this test wasn't even possible. That d-bag in San Diego is a liar.

IIRC, according to Toyota's response and investigation of the incident, his Prius did have that feature. I believe it does require what they termed as "moderate" braking force. According to his story he was jamming on the brakes, according to the vehicle log, they were only tapped lightly a few times.
The only explanation, the ghost in the machine is a hacker.
