ButtDyno Wrote:Traction, power, drivetrain reliability: pick two... what do you think your traction oriented mods are going to do to the transmission/drivetrain parts?
More specifically: tires, clutch, and drivetrain parts. There's always a tradeoff.
He can rest assured that his traction mods won't hurt his driveline, unless he's got some SERIOUS wheel hop.
Chris
I'm not worried at hurting the drivetrain. Breaking an axle is always possible but I expect the clutch to take most of the abuse...that is what it is there for.
Tomorrow is the moment of truth, results will be posted early afternoon.

don't waste your time with the MXs. Thats what I have on the rear of the IV right now. I hydroplane constantly in downpours (regardless of interstate of backroad) and it makes for some scary driving. They are pretty good other than that and definitely cheaper than some alternatives. So far, wear has been really good (for me at least) and they aren't particularly loud or obnoxious. I still would get some Falkens if I could for this car.
Ok here is how it rolled.
Woke up at 9:00 am so I could take a final check on the car. Switched from my rims with 0 tread khumo 712's to two steelie rims with 75% tread khumo 712's. They are what I've been running at the track so I thought I'd use them here now.
Picked up my crew chief dan and my friend's laptop. Arrived at MachV/Ultimate Performance at 10:30. I was missfiring at wot on the way over so I asked about some new plugs. They didn't have any one heat range or two heat ranges colder...just stock. So I took the plugs out of my boy's GSX (I gave them to him so he was really just returning them) and put them in my car. Old plugs were fouled to shit.
11:30 we're finally strapped in and ready to make the first pull (I was scheduled for 11 am but they were being real relax which is fine by me).
Zeroed the settings out for the baseline.....0 fuel across the board and 0 degrees of advance. Car had 5 gallons or more of c16 inside. Boost was 25psi falling ot 20 or so. First run netted a mind altering 266 front wheel horsepower and 290 foot lbs of torque.
Air fuel read off the chart, as in richer than 10:1. Good, this left me a lot of room.
So I get the air fuel to 12:1 across the board and this nets me 295 or so horsepower, 307 foot lbs of torque. Or something close to that.
Let it sit a while to cool down and then start increasing timing. I was getting 16 degrees at 7k rpm, and I wanted more like 23. So a few degrees here and there as well as a lot of cool down time and we're left with my final two pulls:
power 318.76 - torque 333.99
power 320.29 - torque 323.42
Appears that Scott is the winner of the pool. He guess 318 which was closest without going over. Jason's 321 was a very good guess.
Seriously, I could have done a run or two more and made more power....let it cool down some and advanced timing even a bit more (I was peaking at 21 degrees) but 320 is what I'd been telling people and so that seemed like a good place to stop. My goals as far as horsepower have been met and I will now need to get some traction and driving done.
Scott, I'm not sure where you're at right now but if and when you want to take it for a spin let me know....I'll put some C16 in the car.

And of course.....this is all just talk without the sheet. Run 1 is baseline, number 11 is the best torque I got and run 10 is the 320 wheel horsepower pull.
