Nah, a whole bunch of rivers flow the "wrong way".

Rivers drain down meaning they flow downhill. Unless it's a magic river, it shouldn't really care about it's orientation but more importantly, who cares?

Either way, I don't he's not taking the river to get here, therefore the direction he's travelling is still northern, therefore it's "up".

Well, it's just that a vast majority of rivers flow from north to south. Because of this, many people refer to "up" and "down" geographically as referring to "up" or "down" river. Since the Shenandoah (and more than a couple other rivers in/through VA) flows from south to north, "up" stream is South. Feersty was pointing this out because goodspeed said "down to" Northern Virginia, and Feersty, using his strange feerstylogic decided to answer the question that nobody asked: "Goodspeed, don't you mean "Up to" northern virginia?"

And then we ended up here.

edit, also:

Well, if you want to get technical (since he is not, indeed, boating to Nova) Harrisonburg (Elevation~1350 feet above sea level)is about 1000 feet above most of Nova (Manassas~200 feet above sea level)...So he's still going "down".

were anyone talking about going mountain biking or sailing to nova, he would be correct. But in regards to land travel, the method of reference is the compass and magnetic north.

That's some funny shit.

Oh and I submit that the reason we call north "up" is because of map makers proclivity to orient the compass with north pointing to the top of the page and not due to planetary riverflow patterns.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

better than you white boy!

i agree with Maeng - who the f cares? we understand what he's referring to so the communication was successful

Up and Down is a cheap ignorant way of describing where you're going and almost everyone uses it so it works. Turn the map 90 degrees counter clockwise and whoever uses "up" and "down" to navigate are fucked  , yet those that use North, South, East, and West are still ok. Up and Down should be regarding elevation changes. Therefore i'm heading up to Harrisonburg or heading out west or south to Harrisonburg from Northern VA Tongue

This is kinda wierd, why can't they post here? They should be perusing the entire forum anyway not jumping to one section. I don't get it.

The campus events section is there to organize for those who are on campus, no point in cluttering up this thread with people who need rides from harrisonburg when most people attending are already in NOVA. Since its there im taking advantage of it. With a huge case of ADD i often get distracted and off topic so i like starting my own threads to keep me on task.

Should i bring some crackers and cheese?????

How the hell hard is it for someone to post their interest. Are the students that easily distracted by some off-topic posts that they need to post their interest or lack thereof inside an entire other forum.

If in fact it's there to "organize" the students then the only thing it's needed for in this case is to plan rides they can still post their desire to come here. That being said though, since when did you ever hear any complaints about posts looking for rides within any event post?
