whats that mean?

134a is the newer type of freon. It's cheap and you can pick up a charge/refill kit for 10 bucks as opposed to the old r-12 system that required a license to handle it and was ~30 a lb.

134a is a type of refrigerant; yours probably started out with R12, but that has been pretty much outlawed at this point (R12 is apparently toxic but it also tended to be a much colder charge making it seem to be a more effective A/C system). Just pick up a manual and go the A/C section, start removing pipes and you're all better. It will clean up the engine bay tremendously and since the condenser won't be in front of the radiator (assumption based on most other cars) it should allow better flow to the cooling system.

R12 wasn't regulated because it was toxic...it destroyed the ooooooooozooooooone layer....

I knew it was some stupid hippie shit (jump in Jack-o). Either way, I'd just as soon use R12

If its an option, its worth it, IMO, for a daily driver you're planning on keeping. Otherwise, just convert to the 134 if its dead.

Hear that chris? DELETE the A/C NOW! haha
you can delete the power steering too if you want. I like the way it feels without it. a bit tough to park it in tight spaces though

hmm I haven't had power steering for 6 years and I love it. I'll have to think about that one.

Of all the engines that *will* fit in an E30, you pick a turbo dodge.

Newsflash -- The BMW 2.5 6 makes more horsepower stock than a 2.5 Turbo dodge.

heh, I drove it to work a couple of days, and yeah, not having to downshift on the highway to pass is kinda nice. I'm taking it easy on the revs since I don't know a damn thing about the timing belt, but it's really running well now after a valve adjustment and oil change. And it'll be a smooooooth ride to Roanoke tomorrow, stereo and everything!

If you are driving the car to Roanoke then by all means call me and perhaps we can meet up. I am only an hour away in Lynchburg.

If you plan on deleting the power steering you might as well search for a euro rack w/o power steering. The ratio on the euro rack is quicker than the US rack anyway.

No boost for me and the e30 anytime soon. However, I may do this in the future when I rebuild the motor.
