Still not a fan of the new grill or taillights. The chin spoiler looks pretty clean though. I'm sure the aftermarket will come up with a better looking grill-piece.
I like the feel of the '05 STi over the '04, from a pure performance standpoint I think I'd still be quicker in the '05 STi than the standard Evo I've driven. The corner exit scrabble on the '05 was pretty impressive, felt most like a RWD car if you give up a little on entry and then boot the gas to rotate the back end. The Evo seems to dive into corners a little better, but the '05 STi exits better. Nevermind the low-mid grunt if you do get off a corner at 3000rpm where the Evo would take longer to come onto power. I think it's driving style-dependent.

You can change the front end pretty easily, but the rear of the car and the overall shape stays pretty much the same.
thats one of the reasons why i like the 02/03 bugeyes the best. it just fits better overall
Honestly I don't know why Subaru did this, what was the point? The 04/05 front was doing just fine, now they change things and the car looks worse. That's an awfully stupid business decision, they could have saved themselves the money of implementing the change for the next redesign.

It has to do with branding. that new grill is now their trademark. but I agree, especially since the all new car will be out in '07

I like the 02/03 bugeyes as well, especially with black housing, they look hot as hell.

I have to say, I think it looks pretty cool... I mean, it's not meant to look like a sports car... it's meant to look outlandish and flashy which it does well. It's not meant to impress ferrari lovers.... it's meant to impress spiked hair, crazy, young males... and.. I like it.

I dont remember you're hair as being spikey? As a matter of fact, I dont remember you having much hair at all nowadays  .
IMO I just dont think it appeals as well as the last few. Although to be honest, Im not very happy with many of the new models coming out. I would love to see the rebirth of the rx-7 blow this out of the water.

To clarify I think the new front end would look better if it were congruent with the rear. And those tail lights, what can I say about them...looks like someone was digging through APC's rejected ideas.

HAH!
I saw that color (or something a tiny bit darker/faded) in yokohama a few weeks ago. I was wondering about that color, I thought it looked badass.
Edit: I dont remember checking what year it was unfortunately =-/

I liked the projectors better. But I think the 04/05 looks better overall, especially in WRC trim.

Like Gerald was saying, it could have been cheaper for them to stick with the 04 style for monetary reasons but like you said it seems like everyone wants a "corporate" front end these days!
i think the new audi's are the worst offenders.

I agree, I hate those new grills.
I swear everyone is getting infected with the branding disease like its herpes or something. Don't get me wrong, branding is important, but lately it seems like everyone is going overboard with it. Subaru Executive: "MASAHIRO! Stop the production line immediately! We need to increase our branding!"
Sounds like the No Pants Gnomes have infiltrated the car industry.
Step 1: Make Cars
Step 2: Have an emergency redesign to add "branding"
Step 3: ???
