Damn you all! Now I'm all hot and bothered over these too...someone tell me why I shouldn't go pick up one of these this weekend? Are they still giving them away? Did you guys do VW financing, or credit union/bank?
Joey, you sounds like you should have negotiated referral bonuses into your deal

Did you guys do VW financing, or credit union/bank? I kinda did. I mean today is the last day of the month, although that doesn't necessarily mean pricing will suddenly change on Saturday. If you want the incentivized pricing you need to do VW credit at a higher-than-prime rate. Which may or may not be an issue depending on how much you put down. Definitely looking forward to getting it all cleaned up this weekend and taking some real photos. Now: 07 Porsche Cayman S | 18 VW Tiguan

I put ~15% down and got in house financing at 4.5%. The rate isn't the best, but the ~$1500 discount you get for in house financing offsets it.
I think out the door, it cost me a little under $30k. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

Are you allowed to refinance? I'd be happy to take that rate to get out the door then refi the next day with my credit union at 1.9 or lower.

You know... I didn't even think about that. I guess I'll do some research.
Either way, it's better than the 8.5% on the 4Runner. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

We've all been there. Glad you've got a better car at a better rate.

Yeah, the 4.5% is definitely a lot better. Taylor, take a look at Apple FCU and PenFed for your actual banking, and see what either one could do about a refi in the next few months. You may also be hit with the "lack of credit history" bug that hit me when I tried to buy the FoST. Had never had a car loan before and nobody wanted to lend me any money. Best I could do alone was some bank offering about 4.5% with a limit of $20k OTD car cost... because apparently a first-time car buyer can't handle more than that? The Ford dealer got me a loan through SunTrust at... 4%? and had I kept the car longer, I'd have refi'd it.
Once you get a few years of auto loan history on your credit report, it's super easy to get low rates.

The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

PSA: current students, while you are at JMU, get an account with COFCU so you don’t have to pay high interest rates on your first car loan. When I got out of school, they instantly gave me the prime rate with no real credit history “because I graduated from JMU”. I don’t know if they still do, but it is sure worth looking into. Their rates are very competitive as well.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

I mean, I was pre-approved for 40k at like 3% from my bank, but it was for 08 models and up. I did my math wrong and pulled the trigger on an 07 (2017-10=2007, right?) after my bank was closed so the paper work and everything was done before the bank called me to say "Lol sorry, bro, you got 8.5% on your old POS).

Joey, I love that color. Congrats to both of you on the 3 new cars, and to the other 19 people buying VW's this month.
I have a vagcom cable again if you ever need to scan for codes or do certain canbus activities. (Rosstech changed their model and now I'm limited to 3 vins, but not every action will require it to use up a vin license) Has this not been posted yet? https://www.goapr.com/products/ecu_upgra...3_mqb.html I think the VW dealers in Fredricksburg and somewhere in MD will flash and keep the factory warranty rolling for you.
02-28-2018, 05:09 PM
I'll let Joey talk about that. As far as I know, there's no retaining the VW warranty anymore.

APR stage 1 doesn't let you keep the warranty unless you find a mod friendly dealer. Up to them really.
APR Plus does let you keep your warranty. But it costs more and it doesn't bump the power up as much as the normal stage 1 tune.

VAG interests me, but I find it's too much work and can lead to bad situations if it doesn't work out.

Up to them really. This is correct. Regular APR tunes have never retained the VW warranty. Best case scenario is a nudge and wink from a service advisor that they'll totally cover you if any issues arise. Which is good enough for some people, but I don't trust a service advisor as far as I can throw them, so that's always been a non-starter. APR Plus replaces the VW factory warranty with a warranty backed by APR. You cannot have warranty powertrain work done at a "normal" VW dealership, it needs to be tuned & serviced by a dealership that participates with the APR Plus program, or a tuning shop. The closest option for me is NGP in Lorton, so if I do end up pulling the trigger on it, I'll have to get the car down there for any powertrain work it needs. EDIT: Oh and the goaprplus.com website still isn't updated, but they did recently change it so that the "Plus" tunes are the same power levels as the Stage 1. The MK7 GTIs get 305hp / 371lb-ft.
