You're so official now. That trailer looks sweet and really clean! Can't wait to spill beer all over the floor.

Looking good!

Couple bits of things that help me. Get one of those rubber "stop" mats for when loading your race car. That way you can drive in and just "stop" when it hits the mark. Way better than marks on the floor.

Put tint on those windows, especially if you are storing the race car in there long term along with all your tools.

Race Ramps, yeah wood blocks will do but they are heavy and annoying. Buying a set of race ramps makes your life much easier. That small "flip out ramp" doesn't work well with our low GTS cars.

Make sure you get a ratchet e-track strap. I tried the "pull and tight" since they were a lot cheaper. Garbage...

Also if you are keeping all your tools in there, be very careful of your tongue weight. Those RRs are only allowed 500lbs of tongue weight, and with a 3000lb car + 2500 trailer + 200 in 2nd tire set + 500lbs in tools...well you see where I am getting at. You knew what you were getting into, so I wont go further, but definitely stop at those cat scales on the way down/back from VIR and check your rear axle weight.

All good points, thanks DJ. Will definitely grab the rubber stop mat, that'll make life easy.

Was going to either do tint or that "faux frosted glass" overlay they sell at Home Depot. I put that on my garage window and you can't see through it, but it lets full light in.

I got the ratchet e-track strap, looks like what I'd strap the car down with but different ends. Going to try loading the car on Wednesday, I think, so will look at the height of everything.

The PO towed a newer Mustang in this trailer and said he thought it felt good with the car as far back as possible - likely to help with tongue weight as he had the same sort of stuff stored in there. He was towing with a 2004ish F150 (single cab, short bed) and I'm guessing that was a concern for him as well - perhaps not as much but still somewhat. Will try to stop and check weight for sure.

I like the frosted glass idea. Having natural light during the day is nice if you have it all closed up so you don't have to fumble around for the light switch when you have (insert broken BMW part) in one and hand and ratchet in the other.

Man, that looks awesome!! Throw a futon or two in there and you can probably get $200/night on Airbnb in DC.

Hah, don't think I haven't considered it! Wink  I am planning to set up with an air mattress and small heater when I'm at the track, though. There was some discussion of AC units on Facebook today but I have to look into cost and roof prep if it's not already.

Thanks Lee! It's actually kinda "small" at 20' compared to most trailers - we see a lot of 24' and 28' tag trailers and some big pimps (DJ) have the 36'+ goosenecks going on. I've had several friends be all like "OMG you're stuffing an E36 in a 20' trailer NOWAI" but it will absolutely fit and leave some room for tools and tires. The car is only 14' long, give or take. Previous owners had a few different generations of Mustangs in it and those are longer. Any trailer more than 20' long would worry me with the relatively short wheelbase of the RR and the trailer being an even bigger sail in the wind - regardless of weight.

I'm storing the trailer at the same lot where the open was - same spot, even. It's gated, secured, and the whole place is surrounded by barbed wire fencing, so I feel pretty safe leaving it there. And I have "STP" insurance (storage, trailer, paddock) for the E36 and trailer that would cover any theft or damage.

Also get a "pad" to go under the air mattress.  Those air mattresses seem to pull in the cold more than usual, a pad between the trailer floor and mattress helped me a lot when I did that.

or *cough cough* something like this!  If we didnt have our gooseneck, I would be buying one of these.

$570?!

I'll keep the air mattress and add a sleeping pad underneath.

^Have you ever slept on one of those? I would much rather have an air mattress. After sleeping on beds like that in campers I can say that the gap between the two pads on that fold out sofa makes those type of beds less than desirable IMO.

I have, and never had a problem. Would much rather have that than an air mattress.  People are assholes and traipse through your trailer and all over your shit.  You are also putting an air mattress and all your stuff on a floor where your car goes 99% of the time.  Being off the floor is worth it....

I see your point. Especially with the amount of people who come to your trailer looking for tools/parts. I guess I was just raised better not to walk on people's bed/blankets. Or that's just my OCD kicking in. I try not to even let the wife's purse on our bed...

Get a cot, so much better than sleeping on the floor. I have a Coleman brand one that basically folds up into the same size as the fold out chairs.

edit - o yea, clip on tow mirrors for sure. I couldn't see shit with my stock truck mirrors hah.

Took advantage of the super nice weather and started getting things sorted in the trailer. Brought some straps, tires, tubs of fluids, fuel jugs, etc over to help clean up the garage.

The only power outlet in the trailer is next to the door, not near the cabinets. The easy button fix was an extension cord:

The fire extinguisher needs to be recharged or replaced.

Found an old power strip that matched my iMac circa 1998. It'll do.

Decided to not sell the 5.1 sound system I had in the garage. Trailer needed oontz. Two speakers are hanging on the door for easy paddock entertainment. I'll be hooking up a Bluetooth receiver so there's no need to plug a phone in by the cabinets.

Also wanted to keep light coming through both side windows, but obscure the view from prying eyes. The frosted glass "tint" film was $25 at Home Depot and worked really well. Ryan stopped by to help yesterday, but we didn't have quite what we needed for a proper install, so our first attempt looked like ass. I peeled it all off today and tried again with way more water involved. It looks great, and is 100% opaque from the outside:

My roof vent is kinda broken - the crank doesn't work and the plastic topper has a crack so I suspect rain/snow will come in. Need to look up a replacement and install it. I'm sure it'll be cheap enough.

Really excited to have this all outfitted for the season next year!

What kind of roofs do these things have? Are they like campers with a rubber roof that needs to be replaced every decade?

All aluminum. Sometimes you'll have to re-seal them but this has fresh sealant everywhere so I think I'm good. We'll see when it rains.

Looked up the new roof vent and it's about $35 for a replacement, or a bit more to get one with a built-in fan to draw hot air out. Tempting.

Get the fan. The vents only work in a noticeable way with a cross breeze if there is no fan and the doors are shut. Granted, if you have the doors open, it doesn't really matter. Get the fan if you aren't going to install AC.
