Apparently not problem solved. Still does it.
Bogs down usually in second gear starting at 2k rpm but only sometimes, and when it starts to do that it'll idle at 500.
Its not a normal "bog" really, more like as you give it gas the car just doesn't accelerate at all as you push the pedal down. It feels like its running out of fuel or pulling timing almost.
I have an O2 sensor code sometimes that throws a check engine light when idling for a while, could that be related? And I guess the fuel pump could be going out intermittently but from what I understand its more of an immediate once and done failure when it comes to pumps.
Any other ideas?
first thought was fuel. the code may be a lean condition or catalyst inefficiency due to that. it might be pulling timing as a secondary reaction to running out of fuel / running lean.
check the voltage at your pump, your grounds, and if you have a fuel filter change it out and see if that does anything.

The one in the E46 coughed once, made it about a mile before starting to give up for real, and was totally dead about three blocks later. I would think it's something that isn't the pump, in your case.
How old is the fuel filter?
My E30 (Eta) would do roughly what you are describing, in 1st or 2nd gear and seemingly at random. Not a "bog" but just a total lack of power for a brief second. My theory was rust in the tank that was blocking the "screen" on the pump if you jostled the car around just right. I sold the car with the issue and am not sure if the next owner figured it out - he continued my thread on here so click the signature link and maybe give the last few pages a read?

I think voltage may be onto something. It first did it on the highway but only when I turned on as many accessories as possible. Blower fan, rear window defrost, headlights, etc.
I know I have a bad ground somewhere because the temp gauge moves whenever more draw is introduced. I think the bogging and this may be related

Fuel filter is probably 1.5-2 years old. I'll give that thread a look
May sound stupid.... but check your battery terminals and major grounds / connections first (battery to engine block, alternator to battery, etc)
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

Yup, I had an issue with my first miata where the gauges would act funny and then the engine would bog super bad. Alternator belt was loose.
I did have the whole harness apart when I pulled the intake, I may have misplaced a ground then. Since it's not the original harness it's hard to figure out what goes where, I'll give it a shot.
Been awhile since I've updated this, my weird stutter problem was the ECU temp sensor. Other than that the cars been running fine....which is pretty boring honestly.
So I bought some stuff to do. I picked up a 3.25 LSD from an E28 since my 2.93 LSD shit the bed after doing a big ol donut. Started to clunk and grind but it wasn't too much of a loss since it barely functioned as an LSD anyways due to worn clutches. I was pretty content with just fixing that but I just can't leave well enough alone.
Alex posted up an E90 328i 6 speed for partout and I just had to do some digging to find out if I could use it on my M50... 5 minutes of realOEM later and they looked strikingly similar
So now I'm here with a big list of parts from four different BMWs that when combined hopefully let me put an almost new 6 speed into my 30 year old BMW. Anyone have an automatic E36 M3 driveshaft?
Are you sure it's compatible? The bell housing bolts and input shafts look pretty different

The input shafts are different but the bellhousing will bolt up. Right now I'm thinking I can use an e46 6 speed flywheel since it has an integrated pilot bearing like the e90 and it'll bolt to my crank, combined with a matching e46 pressure plate and an e90 330i clutch disk. Most e90 clutches are 228mm but the 330i had a 240mm like the e46/36.
Then I just need to make a mount to support trans and find a suitable driveshaft. I think my dad has a left over shifter from his 128i that I can use

I hate to ask, but why go through all this pain when the BULLETPROOF ZF trans bolts right up and is available everywhere for $300?

Good question. Not really sure. My zf is going out and combined with the fact that I need a new driveshaft anyways when I found a deal on a 6 speed I had to jump on it, I'm getting the trans for less than a zf 5 speed

I have an SMG 6 speed that can be converted to a manual with very little work (look it up). I even have the driveshaft too

Will do, I was thinking about filming it and putting it on YouTube, there's almost zero info on this swap online now that everyone just posts everything on Facebook instead of forums

Damnit DJ. not helping!
find me a parts car with a good dash and headlights first?
Damnit one of my friends had one for sale recently and I can't remember who.
No but for reals, I am heading down that way with my trailer in a week and a half if you change your mind. hahh
