Yes Jimmies have been rustled and I'm used to flaming/bickering so it really doesn't bother me but makes me laugh that's why I volunteered myself.
I'm being all honest here. I never said we aren't having karting. I've said multiple times we will probably go to SPK in the Spring but it won't be something along the lines of renting the place out or maybe do other things. I think we should do Top Gear nights again or things of that sort and I have no idea why we don't have just random sit out and talk at a parking lot or whatever.
Keep up the recommendations for events and things to do and we will take them into consideration.
rherold9 Wrote:To go off of Joey's statement I couldnt agree more. All honesty I think we are doing the best we have since I've been apart of MM. This club is run for students and we are thinking of what students want and what will keep them around even if there are higher costs of certain things over others. We as officers are appealing to what we believe students want. I'm sure we will get a huge turnout of having a tailgate and I'm sure people will enjoy that a lot as just one example. I'm sure a lot of you when you were students would enjoy a damn tailgate to hang out with everyone.
We have been going through several things we can do to make the club better.
I don't think anyone is saying don't do a tailgate. In fact, I suspect most people here would tell you "hell yea, do a tailgate, and invite us, and if you're really that broke ask us for $5 a piece for your keg of natty. Hell, I know I drank my fair share of beer that other people paid for while I was in school, and we had more than our fair share of MM tailgates/parties/beerbqs...when i was a freshman the seniors paid for it out of they're pockets, and when i was a senior we bought the beer for everyone.
What people are objecting to is the use of Madison Motorsports funds to have those parties at the expense of an actual motorsports event that people, by and large, seem to enjoy. If you want to use club funds to tailgate you can start a tailgating society and charge people dues for that, but if people paid dues to this club that money should, by and large, be used for things like karting, autocrosses and the car show.
Speaking of, where did all the money that was raised in April go? It sounded like we raised a ton of money, what did we do with that?
2005 S2000
2003 CBR 600rr
I think we just all wanted to be on the same page as the officers and i think now that some more details have been laid out, some alumni may be happier.
Sounds like it's to late for karting this semester so hopefully that'll give you guys plenty of time to get something worked out for next semester.
Edit : in response to David's question about car show money. I've been curious, how much do we really give away? I feel like last year we gave most of it to our charity. Which is an awesome thing and teaming up with a charity is a great thing and probably is what brings in the majority of the funds but are we doing a 50/50 spilt or do we barely cover the cost of the show (which may not be much considering most companies donate their time)
The above isn't really directed at this year's officers but more just a general comment/question

Brian, I know you meet students but you don't really meet them if that makes sense.
The money raised in April was all donated to Bipolar Aware and we only took what was needed to cover our costs.
Like, I've mentioned I agree all the money should not go to drinks or alcohol/throwing parties only. We will use the money for actual events
rherold9 Wrote:The money raised in April was all donated to Bipolar Aware and we only took what was needed to cover our costs.
Maybe this year, we could add a few more ways to make money or split activities so some donate to the charity and some help MM make some money to give you guys some breathing room when it comes time to pay for stuff. I always hated trying to run the club on "E"
Maybe have like little games setup. Idk how you'd make people want to pay without prizes though and then that would be another expense. Idk.

Matt, its not my "Friend" that makes it, it's a company that I knew of called AWStickers. The reason we wen't somewhere new is because VBD no longer wanted to make stickers, so they are out on doing it. As for the stickers "looking like complete ass" it's the file used by all the previous years of getting our stickers made, so it's literally the exact same thing. The only change we made was making them slightly bigger to be more noticeable from a distance on cars. Plus this company is cheap, and IMO uses a much higher grade materials than we were getting previously. Another thing is, last year we decided to buy enough stickers for more than one year to save money on such a bulk order. So we don't need to order stickers, and probably won't have to for another year MINIMUM unless we just want to place an order for more of the non-traditional colored stickers.

Or don't donate to a charity when MM is in fact a non profit itself. "Proceeds go to educational events to promote safe driving among college students"
, back in the day profits from the car show paid for karting.
For the car show money, all of that (besides our cost of the show) have to go to a charity. That's the only way JMU let's us do this event.

If that really is the case and we can consider ourselves a "charity" then yes, we can do that.

When did that happen?
Edit: Yes MM has a non profit tax ID.
December 20th of 2010. IDK, I just know that's how it is now from my dealings with the car show last year.

Is that a new thing? We never had that stipulation in years past.
I'm happy to charge $Hundreds as a consulting fee to get the show set up and promptly donate it right back to the club, if that'd work as a "cost of the show" expense.

Yep, this.
Now:
'16 Ram 1500 | '97 BMW M3 | Some Press Loan
Then:
87 BMW 325e | 91 BMW 535i | 96 BMW 328i | 95 BMW 325i | 95 Mazda Miata | 13 Focus ST | 09 BMW 128i | 00 Pontiac Firebird | 05 Yukon Denali | 96 BMW 328iC | 11 Ford F-150 | 06 BMW M3 | 10 Range Rover SC | '03 Ford Ranger | '18 Ford F-150 | '01 BMW X5 | '98 Volvo S70 T5M
Well since we have a non-profit tax ID then I guess we can make MM the charity for the show if everyone wants to do so.

Well my plan as an Officer was to be the next Project X and throw the biggest rager ever with at least 6 kegs. I guess we all weren't on the same page...?

As weird as that seems, that would actually probably also be "ok" to do.

Says nothing about having to donate funds? :dunno:
every day we rustling....
to be honest, i wouldnt give 2 shits if you purchased "party supplies" to throw MM parties and shit like that IF the bank account was full, IF motorsports came first, and IF we'd get organized and lay out a plan. but all that is asking a lot, i swear i get it.
another thing i'll swear on... the day you graduate your attitude and outlook on MM changes. I've watched guys go from "F U this is about the students" to "but but what about us alumni!?!?!?!"
now carry on... i'm going to sit in the vanpool for 2 hours before working on my busted pile.
