Charlize Theron had the most badass kill-line of all history in that movie BTW. Sounded like she gargled whisky and crushed up glass right before saying it just for added effect. Fucking awesome.

short answer - Max has good blood and Nux is dying from some kind of cancer/disease (which is why he has the tumors, Barry and Gary on his neck). they hook them up so he can get a transfer of Max's blood and keep fighting. this is apparently a common thing they do to people since so many of them all have tumors/diseases from the screwed up fallout environment
