Maybe it's time to change the color of the car to purple?

I think that picture is a curse...it results in the project failing famously.

What did you paint the headers with? Will it hold up? Will it blend?

sixpack = complicated fail. Give me a solid 4bbl any day.

Headers were painted with a 2000degree header paint. Hold up? Probably not. I hope so but probably not. I might take them back off later and have them powder coated if they get to looking like shit.

More progress this past friday. Got a carb (1970 Carter Thermoquad). New stainless steel hardware for the engine. Got a new heater core and cleaned up the heater box. Doors are cut in and will go on monday. Oil pan is stripped and ready to paint. Engine should be painted up Monday. Here are pics!

More curiosity... I dig the purple (a lot) but what's the reasoning for the orange motor parts?

That's how most all the Mopars came from the factory back in the day.

Well, some of them anyway. An orange engine denoted "high performance" Basically anything 340 or bigger was a "muscle car" and the engine was orange. Engines smaller then 340 in a car and anything else (even big block in truck, RV, or boat) were corporate blue in color. This 318 engine was originally Corp blue. We pained it black with chrome accents when we redid it years ago. Now we are going orange to simulate a 340 4bbl.

Corp blue

I scanned these two photos as well. Polaroids taken during the first tear down.

Yea....Dodge had Orange engines, Ford had "Ford Blue" not sure about Chevys. Even the new SRT8s have an orange block.

Chevy had mostly orange also. Great classic engine color no matter who the mfr is.
