ViPER1313 Wrote:MKIII Supra - - I did love your car Goodspeed, I would have bought it if I didn't have 2 projects. How much does a well done (good paint, tasteful mods) MKIII run for these days?

They've really continued to take a dive lately, looking through the MKIII ads I'm pretty shocked at what your money can get you now with these cars, like:

This car in Chesapeake, VA for sale for 3500.00, 1JZ 5 speed swap, definitely needs some general cleaning up but the cheapest 1J car I've ever seen

This car in Ontario, Canada for sale for 5500.00, with a 2JZ-GTE motor and a 67mm turbo making 600+hp on pump gas

And probably the nicest MKIII drag car in the country out of California for sale as a rolling chassis for 3200.00, with this kind of quality paint, cage, and misc. race items already in place, wouldn't be hard to convert it to road-race duty, though perhaps a little too extreme (no gauge cluster, full cage/door bars, etc.)

[Image: SunFeb07135555AmericaLos_Angeles201.jpg]

Again, they are big, heavy cars, but with the right budget and proper care, they can be quick and reliable. Brian Walker, the guy with the blue one you see at Summit and VIR, has 200k on his car on the original motor, I was in it recently and it felt solid, more so than my old car.

^ eat a bucket of hobo dick-cheese, he asked so I had to tell him Smile

My one serious vote still goes to the 'stang. There are (much) better cars than a MKIII Supra for racing involving turns. Thats about 60 percent of the reason why I sold mine. But to some people its worth it, and I think they are really cool cars still and love seeing them on the road course. So what?

just get an FC with a V8 swap and be done with it. all the lightness and good looks of the RX7 with the V8 deliciousness you can only get from Americaaaaa. better yet pick up someone's halfway done project since you seem to like working on them.

I'm with Scotty. FC/FD + Ellis Juan.

There, you have all the horsepowers you could possibly want, sexy styling, and much win.

Agreed with Scotty Rex, that is a really good option AND it would potentially handle better than either the Talon or SHO too.

Whatever I get has to be made before 1989 (so I can get antique tags) OR be able to pass a MD state inspection. That would mean it needs all safety equipment that it originally came with (seats and OEM belts, airbags, etc) and that it has not be radically altered so far as ride height / interior / drive-train is concerned. Like I said before, IF I ditch both cars I want something fun for the street and HPDE/track, not a dedicated track car.

I agree C5 or ls1 FD, both will serve great duty as street and HPDE/track.

you basically need a big miata...

c5 - too pricey.
c4 - old.
mustang - can't turn.
240 - just another pile.
mk4 na supra - not enough power/heavy.
ls1 fd - i don't like the idea for no great reason.
f-body - too heavy.
e36 - ?
350z - ?
