+1
I miss being able to ride a bike most of the year. I only live about 2 miles from school, but November through April it's just too damn cold and snowy up here. Live the dream while you can!

Back to the prestige argument... I'd love to see JMU go 1A. I (call me stupid) think that a name does mean something if you want to go for a job at the top of your field. In DC, I had no problem getting a tech job. In Chicago, I had no problem as well. I came to SF (heart of the tech industry) and the place is flooded with Ivy transplants and Stanford grads. They treat Berkeley the way kids in my high school treated NOVA. I know for a fact that more doors would open for me had I graduated from a more well known east coast school (didn't do VT because of the size as well).
I would love for people to at least know what JMU is and not have that puzzled look on their face when I tell them about my undergrad. Moderate academic reputation, but still having a name is better than moderate academic reputation with no name. FYI, I'd rather have a masters from Wisconsin-Madison than JMU even though JMU is ranked as a top southern masters institution. Wisconsin just has a better name. That will help you get your foot in the door. Once the foot's there, it's up to you... but getting it there is helped by having a big name on your resume.

do you mean this in terms of getting that first job out of college? i kind of agree but that is pretty job-specific. plus, after that first job i don't think the next employers really care too much.

cool note from one of my teachers today, JMU is 74th in the nation as far as royalties from apparel sales. VT didnt make the list. We were going over college sources of revenue and apparel came up, so he did some research.
