So most agree that the feedback system was broken but it seems ebay went a bit too far in trying to address the problem.
Although I'm not quite sure that it won't fix the problem. Problem sellers generally do retaliate and this prevents them from doing so. If someone is a problem buyer just a handful of times, their account is likely to get removed by ebay after complaints so leaving them negative doesn't really matter anyway.
Perhaps a better option would be to have sellers and buyers rate each other on very specific questions.
-Was payment prompt?
-Was buying/selling a hassle?
-Was the item in the condition described?
-Was the shipping time as expected?
-Did the seller charge a fair shipping price?

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
Here's an example why ebay annoys me.
I bought an extension for my Wii sensor bar. The extension didn't work and even went so far as to break off inside the Wii. When I emailed for a replacement, he told me to try it again. I told him it was broken and asked for a refund because I didn't want to deal with the same problem again. He said I could only return items in new condition. He would replace it, which would be okay if I didn't have to wait another week for it and just bought a wireless one out of fear the same thing would happen again.

Now he wants me to pay to ship the defective one back and won't respond to emails asking for a replacement (so I can sell). If I leave negative feedback, I'm sure to get whored through no real fault of my own. That's why ebay is broken.

OK, stupid question for you chronic eBay'ers. I haven't used eBay in years, so I really don't know the latest trends in dealing with sellers as of late. I'm have several things listed at the moment, and have been getting a ton of inquiries on my new Arai helmet from Europe asking whether I'm willing to ship there. I would be willing to ship if they pay the additional shipping costs, but I'm concerned that there may be a potential scam attached. Am I being overly paranoid or are Europeans simply sniffing out a good deal on our weak dollar?

Last time somebody tried to scam me from the Motherland, they spoofed a bunch of PayPal email payment notifications. That's about all I can offer, though.
Whhich helmet; size?

XS - I was shipped the wrong size long ago, and the company never wanted it back after I called them about 10 times to return it.

as long as you secure the funds before shipping, you're fine. they should be ok with you doing that. i'd love to be a european right now.

I'm not.
Seriously, don't sell outside the US unless it's someone you know. If you're the seller, with both paypal AND ebay, you are the bad guy. You could get fucked 8 ways from sunday and the immediate presumption of guilt is on you.
Don't sell outside the US.

People using paypal can say you effed them, paypal will refund them their money, even after you shipped the item, and come after you to collect. Yes they can eff you using paypal, if they know how to work paypals buyer protection shit.
side comment: weak dollar = cheaper US made goods compared to imports, right? That's generally good for us, I would think.

weak dollar = Euro is worth more dollars.
Ex: Euro = 1.5 dollars. Rudolph can buy 2 things off the Super Value Menu with 2 euros and get some change back for the cab ride to the hospital.
Euro = 2 dollars. Rudolph can by 2 things off the same menu with 1 euro and just clog some arteries.

"Weak dollar equals good" is an overly simplistic view of the situation. You can't isolate dollar value and determine that it is something good is happening.

True story. Read my ordeal at the top of this page, I got kinda hosed on a defective item as a buyer. He could prove it was delivered so I had no choice but to pay to return it for a replacement/refund.

In a weak economy, I'd say it's good. In a weak economy, you want to keep your dollars in your own country. For us to have to pay more for imports, we're more likely to buy domestic. How's that bad? I'm not saying it's forever good, but right now, it's not bad.

I have no idea what you mean by this. when you say worth do you mean absolutely, or it's intrinsic value?

It's a natural function of a weak currency. But simply saying "it's good" doesn't take in to account any of the bigger picture. Like why it's weak in the first place.
