fuel used and emissions are not 1:1, but i'm sure data would show a definite correlation.

the civic is not some pile of junk spewing out nasty colored fumes... it really is just a '96 integra... i doubt very many of them fail emissions.

the last time i filled up the car i was also up to 38mpg... and i <3 Vtak

the bike would fail emissions in a heart beat... its running WAY rich... i filled up yesterday and it was getting almost 45mpg!

yeah..about 4 gallons a day. I'm pretty much ok with that. And the atmosphere too. Mother Nature ™ has a way of fixing herself, so I'm not too worried about it.

It's true. 11 million gallons of oil spilled out in valdez, they contained maybe 5% of that..where'd the rest go? It's only a decade later, and it's mostly recovered.

Did you read the rest of the article? Some areas/wildlife have NOT recovered and hundreds of millions $$ spent on cleanup and lost in fishing, revenue, etc. Dont have to be a hippie, just have some personal responsibility.

also I was using this as a reference to the marine version of polluting the atmosphere. If mother nature can clean it's beaches for the most part ( by 50 years, I bet you couldn't even tell it happened) in a short(relatively) amount of time..I don't think we'll have to worry about human existance being impacted in the long run. Especially since oil reserves are falling...100 years from now there will probably be limited to no carbons going into the air. 100 years after that the atmosphere will be 'fixed' except for whatever the next thing that comes along is. long and short of it: i'm not too worried about what mine, or any of your cars are putting into the air.

I'm not talking about money here. They would've been just as well off giving that cleanup money to the fishermen. The HIGHEST number I've ever seen for the amount they actually cleaned up was like 11 - 14%, most people estimate lower. Now - if nature can take care of the other 9,700,000 gallons in a relatively short amount of time, i'm sure it could handle another 2 million. Let the fishermen live off the 'clean up' money for a while.

Shit happens. Ship's wreck, and people and goods NEED to get places, let's try not to worry about the 'what ifs' of pollution, when, ultimately people are the ones that matter.

you do know that the atmospheric problems aren't just about "omg i don't want to breathe bad air," right? you know about ocean currents, water levels, and shit like that, right? the atmosphere may clean itself up, yes, but in the meantime, we're getting the wheels turning on something that we cannot stop.

Yeah - is the any conclusive, undeniable evidence at all carbon pollution is the actual cause of any of the changes in currents, water levels, polar ice, etc? For every scientist you find that says there is, I can find another that says it's part of the natural climate changes that've been going on for eons.
