If the bushings are worn, then yes they'll replace them. If the radiator or t-stat housing has popped, they'll be replaced with the updated metal parts. And by 100k, if you have a BMW without busted cooling system parts or some sort of electronic gizmo gone bad then I suggest buying lots of lottery tickets.

:?:

I've owned enough used cars to know where to buy stuff from, where to run away from and what the red flags are. And yes, I've owned a few cars longer than 6 months. Do your cars run long enough to see what may actually break?

If you think a car's history has no bearing on its current condition and selling price, then you're an idiot.

Monte Carlo = Used
Subaru = new

have you owned an E36? do you know the most common stuff that breaks? do you know how much shit costs for the M3?

Fortunately RJ did own an E36... he knew what broke on him in the short time he owned it... so he knows at least that much when it comes to the E36... that and the fact that even though his garage has a revolving door on it, he wont buy something without doing the research on it. So he educated himself on the E36 and knows that a history on the car is important.

Not one of my cars has had any kind of failure that left me stranded on the road where I couldnt get home, either, and I put an avg of 30-40,000 miles a year on whatever vehicles I've got.

real world experience with the E36 > whatever you can read on the intArw3b...

I don't think mileage means nearly as much as the condition, history, and how the previous owners treated it. Just my opinion, but i'm with Jack and RJ on this one.

If you don't do your homework and really inspect a high-mileage used car then yes, you'll likely buy a car that will need a lot of maintenance. CPO or not.

Sorry it's already sold Jack... I was hoping i'd see a thread "Jack's new German Ride"....Sad

by all means, allow me to declutter this thread then. Have fun buying a car because it has papers that say it used to be good.

also, just as a side note: I've owned 5 cars that were anywhere between 15 and 35 years old...they weren't e36's, you're right, but I'd like to think I know a thing or two about what to look for in a used car. None of them had any papers associated with them, more than a title. I never once got "burned" buying any of them.

if you have the skill and the tires you can drive whatever-wheel-drive any time, anywhere you want.

it would be alot more different if he were in the country, but in the city they clear things pretty efficiently.
