That's actually funny, on the HV20 forum there was a big thread about if your camera came w/ stickers or not, I chose to leave mine 'riced'.
Well, two years later, I finally got one.
I ordered a Canon Vixia HV30 HD Camcorder from J&R
Here is an example of the image quality this camera possesses, this is actually 2007's HV20 model

And here is some raw, unedited HV30 footage on this page, with an example below

I'll be taking it on vacation starting the 31st (touring around France) and I can't wait to use it for the next-gen of HD MM videos

Meh...I decided to spend my money elsewhere on other interests. I figured I wouldn't be nearly as happy if I sank all of what I am making this summer on one thing, when I can afford multiple things that I can equally enjoy in the end. I've already dumped a significant amount in the fuel system repair and other maintenance, and beyond that I don't want my car to be my sole money pit  Film-making is a hobby I've greatly enjoyed and an investment in such was long overdue.
sell your car, buy a buick, it will handle the same

goodspeed, after seeing the videos that came out of that camera, i now want an hd camcorder... it almost seems like anything is interesting to watch if it's in hd
why did you choose the hv30 over say the hf10 or hf100? i've read a lot of reviews and the hv30 does seem to be favored more, but is there something inherently poo about the flash based cameras?

I really don't know anything about the flash-based alternatives. I was pretty much sold on the HV30 by a member on another forum who kept posting amazing HD videos, and after looking into the specs and reviews, most agree it is the best consumer camcorder currently available.
When I started this thread and was asking Q's about the various storage types, it was proven to me that tape-based is the simplest and most rugged form; they can stand up to vibration abuse better, and once you film, you have that hard copy forever, and they are easily transferable to your computer. I know the same cannot be said for DVD based cameras (they are more fragile and the format doesn't lend itself well to editing), perhaps for flash too.
so wait....you can have HD on a tape???? So my VCR isn't obsolete???
