I think that alot of the areas along Route 1 are worse as well. I think alot of your problems stem from the fact that you drive a honda. My Sentra, even with my SR20 Power plates, has never been broken into. Of course, I'm also more intimidating then a pit bull. People see me and know not to mess with me :lol:

they need to remove the Metro stop then... :roll:...seriously, that exponentially made it much worse 0-2 years after it was built. honestly the area really hasn't gotten that bad until late in my Senior year. I would consider annandale and bailey's crossroads a little worse than most of springfield. i would have to say that the area between Springfield and Annandale (up the Backlick area) is one of the worst in the areas except for (obviously) SE and NE DC, woodbridge, and most of Maryland near the DC border. Springfield is responsible for all but one of my break-ins (1 car theft - springfield mall, 2 break-ins, and 1 "left the car on bricks" incident...[thinking]did that really happen?[/thinking] hock: ) and i lived on the alexandria/springfield border.

i know that bank and it has very few windows and two major roads by it with I-95 and the FFx parkway not that far away. It's also about 2 miles from my house...i pass by it almost every day.

with a gun, no. realistically with the job market and the skills and expereience I have developed, Im pretty tied to the gubment work. And unfortunately, 90% of gubment work is in nova/dc.
Id love to move down south, but tech jobs down there are sketchy at best, and dont pay for shit

meh...they are getting better. although there's alot of service industry stuff i see ads constantly for IT/webdesign type stuff if that's what you're into. I'm not sure of your profession so I'm just saying.

take atlanta for example, you have a ton of monster companies based out of here, and even if they don't pay as well, the price for land and real estate is less here anyway (esp. out of the city) so it kind of evens out.

Eh I dont know that it is as bad as you all make it out to be. To be honest I used to love going to springfield mall as a kid because it was a change from most other malls in the NOVA areas that are pretty much all white. I dunno, I grew up in North Springfield, essentially in annandale, and Ive never had any complaints about this area. It seems like just because we have a ton of hispanics (although where in NOVA doesnt) and koreans people seem to think this area is shit. Ill never understand it. Never have I felt unsafe here, at school, outside, in a mall, etc. And to be fair Jray, you had what, an ek si stolen and an integra broken into (IIRC), its not like those cars are exclusivly taken in this part of northern virginia.

i agree with you even to the civic/integra comment because it's absolutely true. when i was growing up i never really felt that it was a bad area at all, neither the Annandale area. To tell you quite honestly i think my neighborhood is pretty safe right now. After seeing other parts of northern va i understand why Springfield is considered a "low-class" area, but i still don't think it's that bad when compared to most areas in DC and other selected areas around the DC metro area. It's really not that bad and i think people are bashing it without ever living in the area and without really spending time in the area, they're talking from hear-say.

i kind of agree with Evan. Government work is really based in this area, but i'm hoping to gather enough skills and become either a traveling consultant (living wherever i want and working in various locations) or finding a contract on the West Coast or just getting enough experience now and move later. I've also been really thinking of moving to the West Coast near the SF bay area, preferrably to the south. From my understanding from my cousin (lives in LA) the jobs and the economy in California is not going well, especially for IT jobs. If i could score a stable well-paying job in Cali i'd be very likely to move - my mom is the only other reason i'm sticking around the area.

I can't speak for the IT sector in CA, but the consulting sector there isn't suffering, especially in the state and municipal sectors. One of the reasons I'm transferring is to expand the current growth and fill a void in our business unit out there... Unfortunately, I wish I could get an exact move date due to my current commitment to my team and the lackadaisical contractual process of the government sector out in SD.
