The Wachovia at the intersection just got robbed near Jaxx. Third time in a month. I know Springfield Mall is ghetto but man, shit going down 100 feet from my development?

It's also right next to a major thru-way road - that's generally not a good place to put a bank.

There's a bank at the corner of Lee Highway and 66 in north Arlington. It's been robbed at least twice in recent memory... put a bank off a highway and what do you expect?

On that note, I hate Springfield.

Springfield has always sucked, it took you 25 years to figure that one out?

springfield ftl. Did you guys hear they may build a town center in springfield (near where the bob evans is now. I think they want to demolish the big office building thats there now). They also want to change springfield mall alot, I guess to be less ghetto. The article was in the washington post and one of the headlines was something like "changing springfield to a place people actually go to instead of avoid".

You can repaint the place all you want, but it's not the building that make it a shitty place to be.

they need to remove the Metro stop then......seriously, that exponentially made it much worse 0-2 years after it was built. honestly the area really hasn't gotten that bad until late in my Senior year. I would consider annandale and bailey's crossroads a little worse than most of springfield. i would have to say that the area between Springfield and Annandale (up the Backlick area) is one of the worst in the areas except for (obviously) SE and NE DC, woodbridge, and most of Maryland near the DC border. Springfield is responsible for all but one of my break-ins (1 car theft - springfield mall, 2 break-ins, and 1 "left the car on bricks" incident...[thinking]did that really happen?[/thinking] Confusedhock: ) and i lived on the alexandria/springfield border.

i know that bank and it has very few windows and two major roads by it with I-95 and the FFx parkway not that far away. It's also about 2 miles from my house...i pass by it almost every day. Sad

Yeah the problem is there are a lot of low income housing areas around there, and doesn't seem like it will ever be on the come up. I think throwing in a few expensive bars and clothing stores will do the trick. Springfield Mall is ghetto because kids from Prince George's County and DC come down here and commit crimes and have an easy out, I don't think it is upper middle class Springfield kids that live in Daventry stealing people's CD's and what have you.

I read the same article, they want a recognizable skyline in Springfield, but I don't see it happening.

Seriously, wtf?

There are just as many malls in DC and in PG county too...... I've worked some of them when I worked at foot locker a long time ago... some are nice, some are ghetto. But those kids have NOTHING to do with why springfield, or springfield mall sucks. You get the same kids EVERYWHERE - I got robbed at gunpoint in the middle of Vienna as I was closing up the store, and both me and my stepfather were held up at ATM's in the middle of vienna. You think Vienna is ghetto? It sure isnt..... you will get kids looking for trouble anywhere.

Get a clue.

Yeah, cuz then you can have more low-lifes waiting around to rob the rich people dumb enough to actually go to an expensive bar in the middle of a ghetto. I never lived in NoVA, and don't really know all the areas around there, but I do know that I have absolutely no desire to live anywhere close to there, regardless of what awesome job might draw me there.

edit: RJ beat me to it.

Eh I dont know that it is as bad as you all make it out to be. To be honest I used to love going to springfield mall as a kid because it was a change from most other malls in the NOVA areas that are pretty much all white. I dunno, I grew up in North Springfield, essentially in annandale, and Ive never had any complaints about this area. It seems like just because we have a ton of hispanics (although where in NOVA doesnt) and koreans people seem to think this area is shit. Ill never understand it. Never have I felt unsafe here, at school, outside, in a mall, etc. And to be fair Jray, you had what, an ek si stolen and an integra broken into (IIRC), its not like those cars are exclusivly taken in this part of northern virginia.

That springfield shit has made the mixing bowl 10 times better than it was 10 years ago. A lot less accidents, a lot less crowded (although it still sucks), and just a lot easier to get by. Although it does suck when everytime I get on 95 south something is changed. But still, Id much rather have it here.

I drive the mixing bowl every day... there are no less accidents... the new ramp to 495/willson bridge has been up for months and people are STILL running into the divider because they are "lost" during rush hour at 5:30 am.

and yes i used to get to work faster leaving at the same time. it should be noted that traffic is more heavy during the summer anyway... but i am refering to last summer Wink i've been making the same commute for 4 years now.

Well in the few times a week I run into it in traffic I dont think it is nearly as crowded, although both of us are simply stating opinions so someone (kaan  ) should really look it up. Ill probably have free time today so Ill see what I can find.

Traffic is worse in the summer :?: Traffic is MUCH better around here when the schools let out. I haven't been caught in traffic for the past 2 weeks or so, expcet for yesterday, I swear, peoples brains must be connected to the wiper switch, they can't operate at the same time.
