Thats a pretty damn clever ad campaign, I guess it's because every other small car the 1 series would compete against is going to have a front wheel drive platform.

I think BMW is going to have a big hit on their hands if they bring the 130 over here and it goes for maybe, $24k-$29k. The problem with BMW though is that once you start adding options they get expensive pretty quick.

"Car buyers looking for a subcompact mixed with luxury have the opportunity to purchase a new BMW 1 Series in 2008. Luxury cars, such as the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C Class, have appealed to young urban car buyers looking to add luxury to their ÔÇ£blingÔÇØ lifestyles. In addition to luxury car buyers, the sporty 1 Series could attract enthusiasts engaged in the compact-performance lifestyles, where the European VW GTI is among many of the compact coupes modified for performance.
BMW recently announced that it will start selling its subcompact 1 Series in the United States in early 2008 for a base price of $27,400, which is $7,000 less than the 3 Series base price, according to a recent Automotive News article. Although the European version, which goes on sale this spring, comes in a three- or five-door hatchback, the U.S. version will have a trunk. The 1 Series was first introduced in Europe in 2003. Comments from one BMW dealer suggest that the upcoming vehicle will appeal to young buyers and entice non-BMW car buyers to consider buying from the brand."

Well it's under $30k, but I'm sure that number will escalate quickly when you start adding options an turbos.

A bit pricey but not crazy. Kind of a shame they're not bringing it as the 3 door or 5 door but I guess once bitten twice shy (since the 318ti flopped so badly).

Yea i was hoping for $24k or $25k, then maybe the turbo'd version would come in just under $30k.

Quote:On sale in the spring of 2008, the 1 Series Coupe will be available in two versions; the 128i and the 135i. Powered by a 3.0-liter, 230 horsepower inline 6-cyinder engine that generates 200 lb-ft of torque, the 128i Coupe will feature Valvetronic valvetrain management and aluminum/magnesium contruction-core elements of BMW's EfficientDynamics. The powerful 135i Coupe features BMW's twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and an incredible 300 lb-ft of torque from as low as 1,400 rpm. With its direct piezo gasoline injectors, twin low-mass turbochargers and air-to-air intercooling, optimum performance and economy is achieved with no loss in engine response. For the 135i Coupe, acceleration from 0-62 mph is accomplished in 5.3 seconds and top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. Both engines feature on-demand engine coolant pumps that improve fuel economy and reduce parasitic losses for increased output.

Front quarter pics look ok.... but wow it is downright ugly in this pic
Freakin hood looks higher than the trunk! And that sideskirt bulge thing and door crease, looks like my car after hitting a tire wall
And why not have a diesel option? What harm could that do?!
Oh well, it'll be 20 years before I'm considering one anyway.

wow...i imagine in a car that small that 60 mph time must be pretty traction limited.

I bet that car would look even better if it wasn't fuchsia. I probably would have released the first official colors in something a little more sexy.
On a side note, I hope this car doesn't have the overheating problems that have been reported with the engine in the 335. Maybe they'll have that worked out by the time it gets to our shores.
