Very easy to see where the trailer is going beyond just the door mirrors. The advantage may go away when I move to an enclosed, but with an open... was pretty cool:
Big bumps do make the hitch clang around (due to that little bit of slack with everything hooked up), and you hear/feel the knocking because this is a unibody. It's annoying and can be a bit disconcerting, but is normal given the type of vehicle.
That large view is nice! Sucks you can't see the hitch though. The camera on my Dodge looks straight down, great for hooking up a trailer and getting close to parking barriers andd such, not so much for backing a trailer up though. If someone made an adjustable backup camera that would be sweet; look straight down to hook up the trailer then angle up to see where you're going. Not sure how you back up a trailer, but most people I know fall into one of two categories; use the mirrors or turn around and look behind you. I'm a use the mirrors kinda driver. Might take some practice to use the camera.
Towing with my moms Grand Cherokee was the same way with the noise. We pulled a small enclosed trailer to Alabama and every bump made the hitch wiggle around and the sound inside the cab was worrisome the first few times.
Love the new tow rig!

My Canyon has a peg built into the tailgate frame that you wrap the tailgate cable around. It keeps the tailgate at a perfect 45* angle pointing directly down at the hitch so you can line it up when you are towing.
+1 on the awesome tow rig! Knowing me I'd probably end up punching a hole in the bumper so I would also probably figure out another camera solution

how's it handle trailer sway with that shorter wheelbase? at least it looks a good bit shorter than the F150.
i love seeing these things doing work though. that engine is probably barely breaking a sweat. i hope that means you get to the track feeling super fresh and smelling of fine Corinthian leathers now.

The wheelbase is 114" which is about what my SWB Yukon was. It is roughly 30" shorter than the F150, both overall and in wheelbase. But, people tow fairly big stuff with 114" WB and if you have the proper hitch setup (with weight distribution and sway control) it's okay.
The car was loaded up sort of sideways last night because I was exhausted, and I got one bit of almost-sway on the Toll Road at 70 mph. Was very easy to rein back in.
The engine sounds awesome being wound out under load, and is happy to loaf along at 1900 rpm in 6th if the road is flat enough.

Home from a fun weekend at VIR and happy to report that the Rover is a great tow vehicle given how I'm aiming to move and stuff. There were three of us heading down together (me, Jonathan, and Tom) so I had to leave the smaller part of the backseat raised. Cargo capacity is tight with that seat up so I had to put two wheels in the trunk of the M3, and two in the back of the RR. My trip to Sebring will not require backseat use, so I can get a full set (or two?) in the back.
I solved the rest of my cargo issue by actually taking the time to examine what I bring with me and cleaning out my totes and trailer box. The trailer box was far more spacious once I threw out the 5-year-old rusty tins of Super Blue and so on. I'd been bringing two big plastic totes for parts/fluids/random tools and was able to consolidate that to the one larger bin. It was very refreshing to know where everything was, and that I didn't have anything old/unnecessary anymore.
Power is very ample, even on hills. I used the Steptronic for some hills just so it wouldn't try to upshift if I got off-throttle for a second. Same on the downhill helping control speed. Brakes are great (it has giant Brembos up front with many pistons). The sound system rocks and the seats are comfortable on long drives. Being able to vary the level of heat/AC in the seat as well as "just back" or "back and butt" was killer, and Tom's rear seat also had variable heat for the drive home.
The air suspension keeps things very comfortable and it's definitely smoother than my F150 was. It is a bit more sensitive to tongue weight which is expected, but I had it set up pretty good and it was smooth the entire trip.
I am still not entirely sure how to operate the HVAC (though "Auto" and setting the temperature worked fine) and the rear window wiper works but not the way I expect given the switchgear. Need to crack open the manual again.
I purchased Leatherique and plan on dousing the seats. The fronts are dirty and the rears have some light stains in spots. Hoping it'll help out a bit. Will try to take care of that before heading to Sebring if I get a free evening.

If you do end up keeping this trailer, is there any reason no to get a tire rack?

Nope, I'd happily have a tire rack welded to it (and have considered it before) but I'm pretty set on a small enclosed, just because it's a mobile garage and will enable a lot of things I want to do otherwise.

It's been awhile since I've been in a paddock... Do a lot of people use their enclosed as a place to stay as well?

Well I'm home from East Coast Championships at Sebring and the Range Rover was a champ the whole time. I put this many miles on it in six days:
The drive to and from Sebring is long (15 hours with stops for food and fuel) and boring (it's 80% on I-95) but the air ride, climate controlled seats and 720 watt sound system made it all very tolerable.
Averaged ~12.9 mpg throughout the trip. It's about due for an oil change so I suspect I'll take it to Overland 4x4 (local LR specialists) for that and a general inspection soon.
Some photo highlights before I write up the entire trip...
"Truck" parking:
I managed to be the first competitor to enter the paddock on Wednesday evening:
Tom's 28 gallon Gas Buddy fit in the back for refilling halfway through the event. Was nerve-wracking having gasoline in the carpeted cargo area (hope this thing is fully sealed!) but no way in hell was I about to buy 28 gallons of 93 octane at the track, at $6ish per gallon.

12.9mpg is solid! especially considering how fast traffic on 95 can be. i've done it a handful of times and that haul down the coast is a super boring one. glad it went pretty comfortably.
any issue with fuel smell? every time i carry gas in a container it ends up fuming up the cabin. maybe its because i'm using the low quality mower-sized cans and not a decent one like that.
also, so weird to see that shot of the dash and 150mph speedo...what a crazy, absurd, and awesome truck.

Thankfully we only had to go about 5 miles to the Shell station, so we did it with the windows and sunroof all open. Didn't leave the Gas Buddy in the RR and transported it to/from Florida strapped to the trailer. No smell driving to work this morning.
I've taken it up to about 90 mph and it feels... fine? The suspension lowers "at highway speed" by about 0.7" but I really wouldn't want to push it past 90. The suspension is soft and even hunkered down, it's riding high. It is apparently governed at 136 mph which sounds horrifying.

From the times that I’ve worked at the track, a lot people tend to set up living quarters inside the enclosed trailers. Yet I haven’t seen anyone who elected to turn theirs into the full on party trailer with disco ball and all, so I’m looking at you Jake....

Yeah no, I'd get smoked. If I had a 2015 I'd do it. But there is no way I'm losing 1.1 seconds on an intake and tune lol. Plus I'm going for an 87 tune. Not about spending $21+ extra a full tank of gas for 93.

Welp, I bought a new trailer. I decided it's time to move into DC proper, which means I'll lose my garage space for the racecar and tools. What fixes that? An enclosed!
I sold the open trailer a few weeks ago, it got taken home at Summit Point, and I picked this up in Pennsylvania from a NASA racer and his father-in-law on Saturday. Thanks to Joey for riding shotgun for the trip, always nice to have a travel buddy and we seem to be fond of enabling each others' strange/dumb purchases.
The "new" trailer is a 2005 CargoPro. Fully aluminum with a 20' box and V-nose. It only weighs about 2500 lbs, which is wild considering my 18' open was 2k by itself. The previous owner purchased the trailer new and it's been pretty cared for. I'll put new tires on it in the spring, but otherwise it doesn't need anything.
There are cabinets in the V-nose portion, as well as a winch. The seller rigged up a wireless remote to control the winch so you can steer the car in and not have to stand up front. The walls/ceiling/floor are all finished, with some florescent tube lighting on the ceiling and some incandescent "loading lights" for loading up in the dark. There's a tire rack on the one wall that will hold one set of tires.
I ordered an e-track strap on Amazon so I can strap my toolbox against the wall. Going to start loading things in later this week, which will allow me to see what I can sell/pitch from the garage otherwise.
The Range Rover crossed 100k miles on the drive home (yay) and pulled this trailer very well. I'm excited to see how it does all loaded up. My big concern was wind affecting the truck/trailer given the increased aero profile. Joey and I caught some decent winds on the drive home and it was alright. I'm wondering (hoping?) that with more weight in the trailer, it'll combat the effects of wind a bit more. Either way, it'll be okay.
Lane changes are scary right now, I need some bigger tow mirrors on the RR. Also learning that this is a larger, longer trailer that I can't whip around like the open. Joey can share what happened in Bethesda on Saturday on the way home, but it involved him stopping traffic because of a dumbass mail truck driver.
