Will do when we're ready! Probably mid-level stuff for most but the backside lower level we will want shades that open from top or bottom to have some privacy and not lose the view.

40-45 is considered "flood" and 25ish "spot". And yes, if you're not using them much, the savings going to LED is not there. I haven't bothered to swap mine out yet. If you're using say 500W worth of floods for a couple hours a month, you're talking about 25c worth of electricity. Not worth getting out the ladder until they burn out.

Well we took two out to power a wreath and they were either broken or I broke them cause the metal cap wasn't connected to the glass of the bulb anymore but pretty sure they still lit up and the back of the house, one of the glass lenses just decided it didn't want to be on the light anymore and just fell off so that's like a spot light now. So they need to be swapped but I've been trying to do all LED as I swapped them but probably not for $120 especially when the two in the front almost never get turned on.

The real savings would be the garage lights but those are pricey too. We have like 18ft ceilings in the garage and the builder thought 4 standard 60 watt incandescenta (back in '99) would be sufficient. We switched to like 300 watt incandescenta at some point which actually did alright and then some huge CFLs but I think led would be the way to go. We've talked about hanging some shop lights but it just never happened :dunno:

Are there any cheap alternatives to motorized shades? The fiancé likes to sleep in a cave but seems to always forget to close the blinds and curtains until we're in bed and guess who gets to do it then. That or they just stay closed and the room is super depressing. Just thought it'd be nice to press a button and have the darkness she wants but first world problems I suppose.

Edit: yes I'm lazy but I should also clarify that it's not just pulling a cord. She wants no light whatsoever so it's like a 5 step process for each window trying to make sure no possible light will make it through in the morning because good forbid that happens. But would also be cool to set them to open on a timer so she'd be slightly more motivated to get up.

No, not what I'd call cheap. I might be able to get you some motorized rollers for $300-400ea if they're not very big, I'd normally sell them for twice that. But then you could do what you want from your nightstand and one button. As far as tying into timing and such, I haven't looked much into it but those abilities are changing rapidly. Or for like $10 you could get her a sleep mask. Or just put a pillow over her head.... :dunno:

Corn lights! You could have that garage brighter without swapping fixtures for less than $200. I just picked up one of these and it seems decently put together for being a no-name:

Hot damn, 6900 lumens from the 60-watt models. I've got 2 massive CFLs in my garage kicking out a total of 7,400 and it's like a damn hospital in there when they get warmed up. I can only dream what 13,800 would look like.

We've tried the sleep mask. It helped but she still requested the blinds and curtains closed. But yea that's what I thought about prices. I'm not that lazy. I think what I really need is something that blocks light better than mini blinds. Maybe a roller shade setup but that'll be a little while unless they're as cheap as mini blinds which I'm sure they're not. Maybe spray paint some mini blinds black (they're only $5 after all)

And yes I actually looked at pretty much that exact light right before I bought the same physical size (don't remember light specs) CFL. CFL was cheaper and I wasn't thinking power savings at the time. But I think I may try the LED in the near future. The CFLs do not last long hung upside-down I guess. The first couple even said not to hang like that

I already sent him thermal black out curtains. He already has a system to block out light but it's just too annoying to continue to close the blinds and curtains every night. I told him to tell her to deal with it but that's not gonna work.

UTF8&psc=1</a><!-- m -->) because they seemed really well made for the typical Chinese LEDs that I have bought but they had a noticeable flicker on the "low" light setting even though they were listed as dimmable. Sending them on back to the Great Amazon Return Void. At least I know what bulb base the microwave takes now (E17), there's like nothing online or in our literature that states it. I guess Frigidaire wants you to pay $25+ for their 40w incandescents :lol:

Interested to see if you find something that works. I use those lights alot when cooking and there pretty much just always on when I'm in the kitchen. I've noticed they get super hot so some LEDs would be nice
