I felt like that were starting to get in their stride with conversations and banter. The military thing dragged out way too long, but otherwise I loved the Vulcan review. What made TG great was the side stuff they said and did that at least appeared candid and was genuinely funny.
In other words, they just need to not try as hard

The third episode was waaaayyyy better. That's the old fashion stuff we know.
And on top of that, the visuals and cinematography was next level. The map animation/cgi thing they had was very "man in the high castle" style. I liked it.

Hate to parrot everyone else but I enjoyed this episode. Very true to top gear. Some stuff is still forced but nothing not similar to the last few years of Top Gear.

So thoughts now that we're about 9 episodes deep or so? We really enjoy it. It feels a lot like the magic that Top Gear used to be, to me anyway. There's still some stuff that's forced / contrived, but for the first season of a brand new show with new producers and funding they've really done a good job of it. I've found myself laughing out loud like I used to when the trio was on TG.

I can't remember the name of the company but they went with the trio and amazon hired them all.
Idk. The Namibia special didn't really do it for me. The first half was meh and I started paying attention to my phone in the part 2 to not fall asleep. I actually forgot James may drove an NSX until I thought really hard about it and I don't remember what the rest of the last episode was tbh.

I've been watching with my older son (13) who over the last year watched about every TG on youtube and we agree that it's getting better each episode. I think the track they have is pretty terrible so definitely prefer the open road segments. The american stig is like SNL - I get the joke after the first 30 seconds, but then it just keeps going...it actually gets George Costanza awkward...The boy loved the military segment which I think says a lot about the level of humor there, I thought it dragged on too long and I was sorely disappointed that it wasn't an armored Audi they "tested" to take live rounds. One of my favorite things is watching my son squirm with all the dick jokes! The celebrity death thing I'd be OK with if they just got more creative with it, I was hoping for a moose or something and I got a "passed out from drinking Vodka".
We need to finish the Namibia and the latest episode yet...

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...

Thanks for doing the heavy lifting for me
So we know Matt is meh on it, is that the consensus? I actually am looking forward to the remainder of this season

I've enjoyed the more recent episodes quite a bit. The two-part Namibia episode was fun. I really want to see them return to the era of "we were given $2,000 and told to buy a V8 sports car" type of challenges. Those always struck me as the most fun for them to produce and the most genuine expression of each of their personalities.
My hope is that The American and the Celebrity Brain Crash both disappear after this first season. All they are good for is wasting a few minutes of time.

Now I'm not Mr. Racey McRacecarson like some of you guys but it looks to me like he came in way too hot and locked up the brakes. I guess we'll find out if it was some kind of mechanical issue when the show airs.

Yeah, based on that video he came in pretty hot (trying to trail brake it a bit?) and either had some mechanical failure or ran out of talent. I don't want to conjecture any more than that, given I'd kinda hate it if someone did that about any of my incidents... but I think "too hot" is definitely applicable. Glad he's okay though, that was naaasty.

If you don't want to watch the entire video, jump to 22:44 to see them discussing why he crashed.
Basically what we said, came in that turn MUCH faster than the previous 3 laps and the torque vectoring caused a bunch of oversteer when he hit the right-left turn and tried to get it to go hard left going way too fast.

STRANGER THINGS IS THE BEST FUCKING THING ON TV. THE. BEST.
SPOILER
SPOILER
SPOILER
at one point it just got waaaaayyyyyy too X-Men for me I was like woah woah listen listen you can't say these things. "Gifted, you're special you have gifts" when Eleven met her sister was way too professor Xavier and the follow up "imprisonment, lies, hatred" was waaaaayyyyyy too Eric lensherr and then remember when she was all like "feel the anger to harness your power" again, waaaaayyyyyy too Charles teaching Eric how to use his powers. Just too close for comfort.
But other than that and the girl not actually dipping her cup into the juice and the dude in the covenience store pretending to run on water when the ground was in fact dry, THE WHOLE DAMN THING WAS AMAZING!!
I was prepared for it to end not leading into a season 3. I already suspect I'm not gonna like it as much. I'm not sure they can milk this shit any further.
