I run all of the eBay parts I can. Hey man the cheaper the better but I'm just saying don't overpay for sub par quality.

just curious, are you dumping your stock exhaust or hanging on to it? just asking...for....a friend 8)
I'll probably hold on to all of the stock parts for now. If I decide to get rid of it, I'll let you know though.

ah - don't worry too much about it. i have to head through Harrisonburg next Saturday and was thinking if you had it on hand to sell i might grab it.
smart to keep it though...your car is way cleaner than most so if you don't like it you still have great resale potential if you return it to stock again.

It seems I have a power steering fluid leak around the power steering pump itself. This might be where I was getting a few drops on the ground from instead of the valve cover after I messed with that.
Looks like you can get some o-rings to rebuild it fairly cheaply, but I may just get a remanufactured one since they're less than $100. I'll do a little more searching around to see what the easiest option is.
Luckily, the power steering pump is right at the top of the motor so it shouldn't be too bad to work on.

Good news and bad news.
Good news is that based on where my power steering leak is, I should be able to fix it with a couple of cheap o-rings.
Bad news is that the exhaust I had picked out and ordered is on back order with no available time frame. Since I'm currently just over the 3 month mark of waiting for my M3 exhaust, I'm not really interested in waiting for who knows how long for a cat back for this car. Guess I need to do some more hunting and find another exhaust I like that isn't super expensive.

Why buy new? If you are just looking for a cat back, hop on NASIOC, Im sure there are a ton FS this time of year. For something that is 90% under the car, I would think you can save at least a couple hundred bucks. Just buy a new gasket for the midpipe connection if you need one.

are you opposed to just throwing an STI catback on there?

It's been a while but I remember the last 04-05 STi I drove being nearly completely silent. I want something with some volume. Not so loud that it will drone and be annoying inside the car, but significantly louder than stock.
I might just look into the TurboXS axleback. I'm not sure if that will be loud enough or not. Looks like they just use a magnaflow muffler.
Driving chads car the other day reminded me of how much I miss having a car with some volume.

Yea, an STI catback will be fairly underwhelming for volume. Same with just an axleback.
Id recommend first trying a cat back - if you like the volume then stick with that, if you want it louder you can do the down pipe as well. I run a catted DP with an SPT cat back. Its moderately loud, but (IMO) has good sound and still has the stock look.

I went ahead and ordered the TurboXS axleback. They also sell the mid pipe separately so I can add that to have the full catback if I want more volume.

Nice! Did you order the standard or Ti tip? The Ti is definitely louder but has more of a ricey look, the standard IMO looks awesome and I loved the sound of it, especially paired with the TXS downpipe. It definitely accentuates the boxer rumble. I am curious to hear how you like it

Standard, I don't really want the negative attention from police that comes with the ricey style of mufflers. I've never had a problem with cops bothering me about exhaust on any of my cars that had stockish looking exhaust. The only one I had a cop say something about was my Eclipse GSX that had the apexi n1 angled muffler.
The standard TurboXS muffler tip looks almost exactly like stock so I should be good.

I received the TurboXS muffler on Friday and installed it yesterday. It actually ended up being just about the perfect volume for what I was looking for. The axleback alone makes a significant difference in the volume and tone over stock and I wouldn't really want it to be any louder for a daily driver.
I'll try to get a video of it soon, it has a nice deep rumble and not raspy at all. Just what I was looking for

Nice! Glad the recommendation worked out! I loved that exhaust, it really is the perfect tone for that engine and it looks great and stockish. You can always add the TXS downpipe and a catless uppipe in the future if you liked
