Lincoln had one filled with apple cider that they were adding champagne to (after putting it I to the glasses) when I went up to visit a couple weekends ago.

First Instantpot fail. Tried to make shredded chicken taco bowls following a recipe that told you to dump the rice right in with everything else and cook on high for 12 minutes. I should have known that wouldn't work because the rice setting is for 20 minutes. Rice was completely uncooked after 12 minutes so I took the chicken out and cooked the rice for another 15 minutes. It worked but then most of the liquid was gone.

Has anyone had luck with any recipes like this where you can cook everything together?

We have not done one pot with rice. I'm sure there's a way to make it work, but it just seems like the starch would screw up the texture of the dish.

Actually use a small Zojirushi rice cooker alongside our IP if we're having a rice dish. You don't get the benefit of one pot, but the rice is perfect every time.

Rice can cook faster but usually at a higher temp. Like boil over simmer. No idea how the instant pot handles it though

The rice setting on the IP is what I usually do if I need to make rice. 20 minutes, set it and forget it, and it's perfect every time.

You didn't use the rice setting for the chicken though is what I'm saying. If the chicken cooked higher temp or more pressure or something, then theoretically, the rice could cook and just be slightly different in texture.

So my fiance got me an instant pot for Christmas but not the one I wanted. I had the ultra 6qt on our wedding registry just because but everywhere was completely sold out of all but the lux3 (lowest tier). So she got me that one. I don't know if I need the ultra but I definitely want the next step up I think if not the one under the ultra (the other one with LCD screen not the Bluetooth one)

I think we're returning the lux3 but my question is, should I spring for the ultra or do you think it's unnecessary and I should just get the duo or whatever. Which would you recommend knowing you guys have several different models.

Unboxed the instant pot tonight and went to town with this - http://nomnompaleo.com/2017/04/18/201704...r-carnitas

it was a little ambitious for a weeknight, with 2 trips to the grocery store and getting home later than I'd like, but fuck it, we're doing it live.

I'm impressed with it - the meat needed more time in the cooker, the cut was pretty fatty, but that's not the pot's fault. For under an hour in what would take a crockpot 5-6 hours, its pretty amazing.

I also received an instant pot for Christmas and tried out this recipe over the weekend. https://pinchofyum.com/instant-pot-korean-beef-tacos

I forgot to buy ginger so I left that out, but they still turned out great. I also used mexican melting cheese (similar to mozzarella) as a topping and recommend that as well.

So far I'm liking the instant pot a lot.

Korean tacos are on my list of things to make soon. I made some last year in the crockpot and they were fantastic. Did beef and broccoli again last night with brown rice in the instant pot. Flank steak was fork tender after sauteing and then 10 minutes or less on high pressure.

I did have my first mishap making some General Tso's chicken. I used cornstarch to coat the chicken and when sauteing there must have been way too much chicken stuck on the bottom of the pot. I didn't deglaze like an idiot. Got a BURN warning on the pot and looked it up. Evidently, if there is too much crap stuck on the bottom of the pot it will never build pressure. Opened it up and scraped it off and added a little more water and it was fine.

My favorite thing to make is southern style collard greens. 20 minutes in the instant pot and they are all day soft.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

Ok, its time for new kitchen pots. My pots are old enough that I have zero fucks about throwing them out and replacing them.

What are y'all using? I probably need 3 sauce pans, and 3 or 4 shallow pans of various sizes. Already have large soup pots.

They aren't fancy but we have been impressed with the Kirkland set from Costco.

3yrs, 1yr on glass top and almost 2 on gas, with no issues, safe up to like 450 I think. If they fuckup, Costco's warranty ain't bad either.

I cook with them 4 or so times a week every week.

https://www.costco.com/Kirkland-Signatur...90381.html

The deep saute pan is great for stir fry or like carbonara.

Also use a 10in and 12in lodge cast iron pan.

Need to get a cast Dutch oven.
