lol, the digital dash is gonna be SO BALLIN!!! Its gonna totally be worth all the trouble. I just want everything to be logical. The way I had it wired before made no sense. All the gauges took power from the radio and lighting inputs from the radio and such. See, the instructions for doing the digital dash swap on the net leave out all the "extra" stuff that goes above and beyond just making it work, because most TD people are lazy and bad at wiring. So I am having to figure out most of the shit on my own. So, its a digital dash, which means it is bright at night right? The instructions say "don't worry about the dimmer wire, just leave it" that kind of shit bugs me. If the "dimmer" wire is there it probably does something cool to the unit when you turn the light knob. I want that cool something to happen! I also want to re-route all the wiring that goes to my gauge pod up behind there so all the gauges are wired together....thats the logic I was talking about. I don't want half the wiring going to the radio and half to the column. Also I need to go cut the ignition harness out of another car. Between all the cutting and splicing my ignition harness wires look like solid electrical tape.
If you can see it this is the swap thread I am using for my basis, but the bottom line is I will be doing all the wiring from my diagrams. I have an 88 and 89 book both so I can look at the two sets of plugs side by side. I'll be taking them to class today so I can try and figure this shit out.

REMOTE START OWNERS~ have any of you figured out how to make "turbo timer" an automatic option? I'm thinking if this is possible I might put a Python 990 on it (the mile range joint with the LCD display) The 990 is the same as the Viper 8XX whatever you DSM fools have, only its gonna be the model after it. My problem with remote start for that purpose so far is that it is an option that you must activate. I'm thinking I might be better off just putting a strait up turbo timer in it instead.
On that note - Whats a good cheap turbo timer? I had a "greddy" one I got from Rex but it didn't seem very legit so I sold it. Thoughts?

Greddy makes good turbo timers, IIRC. I liked my Apexi turbo timer b/c it was small and simple. There's lots of options out there, just depends on what you want.
You could also bypass that need and just drive the car really lightly and let it cool itself down as you get to where you're going... :-)
Dave, I don't know if you've seen Jeff drive, but the boy needs a turbo timer like whoa.

Meh I've never been sold on turbo timers... it's more of a gimmick than anything. I never ever ran one on either of my turbo cars. And yes, I understand that Subaru turbos are designed to automatically cool themselves, but the GT35R was not... I usually just let the car idle for a bit when I parked it, if that. IMO you really don't need to worry about the problems that a turbo timer is meant to prevent unless you're going WOT and then instantly stop and shut off your car. Most people are going to be driving slowly and out of boost for a few minutes before they park, so that's usually plenty of time for the turbo to cool down.
If it was me, I wouldnt' waste the money... but it's up to you.

FWIW the other night after I put my exhaust on I went for a little drive after to see how it sounded. Lots of WOT and boost. When I pulled it back into the shop, I shot the turbo with one of the infrared laser thermometers that reads up to 600 degrees F and it just showed "- -" on the display meaning it was hotter than that. All in all, it's pretty convincing to me a short little idle or cool down definitely doesn't hurt.
Note to self: When buying a turbo car from Lee, save some money and start looking for new turbo... :-)
Between the temps that a turbo sees in normal use and the fact that the same oil sits in a turbo after driving it until it's turned back on, I believe a solid cooldown is in order any time the car is driven and the turbo is spooled up. Yeah, I'm probably being extremely anal, but those things are expensive and typically a royal PITA to replace, so I'm either going to buy a device to cycle oil oil through it until it is cool, or I'm going to sit in the car long enough to ensure the oil isn't going to burn up inside the turbo.

*shrug* ... ask Travis! That turbo was working perfectly fine the last time I heard!! And it saw a lot more boost than any stock turbo does. It all depends on how you drive and how anal you are I guess.

The "option" is just pressing two buttons before getting out, takes all of a second. I like it as sometimes I just drive my car for 2 seconds. I dont want to have to reach down and press a button to have it turn off. More often than not when you drive, your car does not need cool down, only sometimes.

I only let the Talon idle for a minute if I have been out beating on the car or driving on the highway and I haven't had 3-5 minutes of cool-down time. Otherwise I just hop right out.

The hood scoop / FMIC combo (TMIC no longer in the way) really helps to cool off turbos faster too, so the Suby guys always have that added benefit.

Meh, I recognize that I'm probably more anal about stuff like that. Just saying that spending $50 on a turbo timer is a whole lot better than $500-1500 on a new turbo.
There will probably be one on my Z.

I'll second the Apexi Turbo timer, nice and small the control box can be mounted somewhere hidden like under the dash.
Has volt and O2 readings, might have a few other options can't remember.
HOLY SHITBALLS BATMAN! They're painting it! Any by they, I mean the dealership. The guy I was going to get to paint the car decided he didn't have enough free time to "do it to the quality he wanted" so that was going down the tubes when all of a sudden my uncle just told them to start prepping it and getting it ready for paint. They are doing all the small stuff now but I waked in the bodyshop Friday and asked them where "the new nose cone" for the Daytona came from. It was my old one, just fixed up and primed. It looked like it just came off the Mopar parts truck. All my small parts and the front splitter are the same way. The transmission (also getting put back together by the dealership) is almost done. We have had considerable problem finding a few parts that apparently when missing during the time I had it apart. But there is also a good possibility it was lost before hand. I'll get some pics of all the progress sometime this week.

So yes. As soon as they started painting on it they stopped. So its where it was several months ago. Today I ordered two wiring harnesses I need to get the dash finished. Later this week I am going to finish the engine and get it all buttoned up. I'm quitting my job at Circuit City after this Sunday so I can devote every Sunday from now until this car is done to working on it. I want to get the engine and transmission mated together sometime before the middle of next week so I can pull the car back inside with the clear intention of completing the wiring and installing the drivetrain.
The point of this is I need to get this car done before I can do anything else. I was practically signing papers on this Crossfire when I decided I would be better off to drive it for free until it is sold and put the $260 a month into the Daytona.
